How do you guys manage to actually sit down and keep working on a piece. Being new to pixel art (and still preferring non-pixel digital art as I am a "long, loose brushstrokes" type of person), I find I lack the patience to continuously work on a piece, and am able to only work for probably between ten and thirty minutes AT MOST at a time, then I get distracted for hours.
How do you stay on task? |

The few guys who did not have this problem became professionals. The rest are probably like me and you.

I just find it hard to start, but when I get a good idea in my head and I see it coming together I can't put it down.
Try listening to music when you're at it? Edited by Leroy - 11 September 2011 at 7:07am |

I'm running in the desert,
running in to the sun, running out of blood and I'm going numb. |

I have two computer screens, so I tend to watch a lot of TV shows while pixelling. Like all the episodes of Simpsons. Really though, it's the same as everything else. There's no point in looking for motivation, whether it's for pixelling, training, reading books, practicing the guitar or whatever else. There's so much to do in the world, just do whatever you want. Live each day as if it were your last and all that.
Or get some amphetamines. |

It's got to be finished nownownow. If I can't pixel for a few days, though, I completely lose interest and can't finish it. :P |

I sit and start something and eventually it become something else which usually turns into something else and eventually something develops that exites me then I explore the sh*t out of that and then while working on that something else develops, and I start that (roughly and put away in my 'black hole' folder) then go back to whatever I was doing and continuously work on everything.
This way when I'm having a creative slump I can dig thru the ideas in the black hole folder and focus on technique and exploration of process as I wait for the next creative flow. When I'm not working as I go about life EVERYTHING goes thru the "Is it an idea' filter and jot it down or email myself. I think great ideas come from casual conversation, things people say and do... ...for example this clever idea, just added by T-Mind is begging for everyone in Springfield to become a Pokeman. If you like Pokeman then that's an incentive to sit and focus. |
