I am currently making a new piece and have decided to start with the hat which will be flopped over the head of my little character. When showing it to a couple people I know one said it is not recognisable as a hat. I made some adjustments and he proceeded to advise me to come post it on here. Need thoughts and advice. <3

the brim ob the side facing us has a dark line running between two lighter lines, which makes it look a bit strange. is this a straw hat? i would also clean up the bottom edge so it's mot so jagged. otherwise. color's and shading look good to me.

Thanks, i'll have a go at fixing that line. The hat isn't straw, I don't really know what material I am portraying. I'll try to fix the jaggedness!

sorry for all the typos! that's what i get for trying to use the laptop in bed. what kind of a character is this for? i was thinking a straw hat because it kind of fit with the colors and shape, but in context of your character (in terms of perspective, size, and setting) it could very easily look completely different: a small sailor's cap, a fantasy peasant's hat, a pirate's pointed hat, etc.

The character i'm thinking of is going to be some kind of old dwarf or knome or hobbit with a pipe etc. :D
