Hi. I'm new here. Humbled by pixel art, let me tell you:)
Here's my first 2, one is a self portrait and the other is a wip of an avatar based on a friends drawing. I like where it's going although it's a little on the big side. I use photoshop and the pencil tool, then just freehand and slowly tighten the art up. Let me know what you think pixel genuises, thanks!

Here's an update of the goblin dude. I opted to go 100 X 100 instead so I could really nurse the pixels:) Might try and do a simple breathing animation on him too.
here's the drawing my friend did that I'm basing it on.

The goblin looks very nice however the beard hair needs a little more depth which can be achieved by adding strands to it. I assume you were planning to do this but just in case.

Thanks yeah, I've been putting off the hair because it is still a little tricky for me:) here's an update after I made the image bigger to really get that horn and costume in there more. at this rate I'll probably make the whole dang character!

You're missing the mark with his characterization. His chin isn't that large, his helmet is further down, and his neck is sticking out at an angle.
