I was browsing information about the new Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion when I encountered numerous comments about how the graphics were "bad" simply because it was pixel art. I can't even read these without getting a stroke from the stupidity.
"wtf? how come this looks way worse than the game with the wii (diff graphics) my brother wouldn't care but i'm all about graphics. i was so psyched to get this game cause i thought itll look like the wii until i saw pictures like this... LOL" "Why is nintendo being so lazy? the 3ds can have very good graphics, as they showed by kid icarus. And this is what they come up with? This looks like a gameboy game.... -_-" The ignorance is flying through the roof. The pixel art in this game is done well as well! How can these morons judge a game based on the fact that it uses pixel art!?! It is idiots like these who are pushing pixel art away from the modern gaming scene. |

Ignorance is the key word here. People don't understand how things are made and most people have no idea what pixel art is. They think it isn't as good because they think it is obsolete/less work.If they took the time to learn they would realize how much work goes into pixel art and how amazing pixel animation really is. I mean to chose every single pixel and create something so smooth and amazing.
those ignorant people won't ever get to enjoy a game which is pixeled but those of us who are lucky enough to understand will!

I think that Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is not a pixelart game, at least backgrounds look like digital art - with gradients, a lot of colours etc. And suddenly you can add me to that ignorant bunch because usually I couldn't care less about digital art unless it has powerful impressionistic brushstrokes and perfect color choice. I think it's a matter of taste.
How pixelart would be perceived by those who started to play games in late 2000's and haven't any nostalgic connections to it is interesting to see. I think pixelart itself would have to change to still amaze people. Edited by A.B. Lazer - 26 June 2012 at 1:43am |
