On the left is the main character and on the right is an enemy. After looking at these sprites closely I am wondering if the style of each looks too different to be in the same game...

To me, it looks like the enemy sprite is meant to be something on a much larger scale, almost like a boss or something. But your game is completely unique, so it is really up to the creator to make their own gaming atmosphere.
