I was just scrolling through the forum observing peoples pixel art when I started wondering what made you people start wanting to pixel?.  So If you could cause of my curiosity tell me why and when you started to pixel and how did you learn?.  I learned by trying to mimick sprites I saw from SNES games on my computer, because I was trying to make a game and I never found any artist so I decided be my own.

I was making some icons for websites and I just thought it was a lot of fun to create miniature objects.  I started with the vector style using Illustrator/Flash at first, but eventually I got deep into it and really enjoyed pixel art icons.

Another influence was plain old fan art... I always loved the art of video games and I happened upon a few animated GIFs from games like Street Fighter, Megaman and some 16 bit X-men characters on various websites.  I examined the sprites and was just astounded by the minimilistic beauty of the characters and their movements. I was soon gobbling up all the sprite sheets from all my favorite console and arcade games.

One of the main influences that really got my ass into gear were all the excellent pixel art websites out there like eBoy, supertotto, Pixelation, mrwong.de, etc. Something just clicked... I should be doing this too!

I also liked the idea of being apart of all collaborative pixel projects floating around mrwong.de's skyscraper. I've always wanted to help build an art community of some kind and it seemed like pixel art was the perfect fit for me, hence Pixel Joint was born.

At the time, I was heavily into creating photomanipulations and posting at www.deviantart.com ... as always I get with the same old stuff and wanted a challenge. I had noticed some featured deviations that were pixelart and was intrigued. Eventually, I started making pixelled avatars for myself and friends there... then I delved into animating them.. then I started iso work and progressed from there. Alot of inspriation came from mr.wong's soup apartments as well. Not to mention the always amazing www.eboy.com

I am always inspired by other peoples creations. There were some times when I had no internet for months on end and found myself creating nothing whatsoever. The internet fuels my inspirations.

I started with emoticons, then became interested in more involved, larger pieces of work.  When I started with emotes I didn't even realize that it was a form of pixel art until I read somewhere that the shading technique I was using was called dithering, and drawing only one pixel at a time was an art catagory all its own.

I started off at PixelLAB and saw Ndeal there and really liked his stuff and I stuck with it. Later moved on to Pixelation where I noticed Ndeal again and tried to mimic his style. After a while, I was able to break off from looking at his stuff and was able to make my own stuff pretty decently and now I just learn little things by looking at various artists' stuff.

I think I got into pixel art by making games... My first games didn't have very good graphics, so I looked for ways to improve them.
