i want to make pixel art but i cant because i dont have a good pixel art program please elp me tell me the pixel art program you use

graphics gale is good but its very confusing i cant even figure out how to change the color, delete stuff ettccc

The best for you should is the one that allows you to pixel freely and not notice the program...try them all.

an experienced artist wouldn't waste time with a clunky program like mspaint. ultimately, yes, it's about the skill of the artist, but there's a reason pixel art pros use something like promotion over mspaint, there are more available features (easy palette control, animation support, tools specific to pixel art).

like grafx2, for those who are too cheap to buy promotion (now supports animation!)

If you guys haven't heard of it already... I just found this program called ASEPrite the other day. It's got an awesome pixel style interface that puts you in the mood for pixel art, and seems to have great tools and customizability as well.

The only thing is that I'm not sure about how useful the interface is for layers and animation as I haven't used them too much. It seems to be a little less accessible than other programs when it comes to layers, but they apparently take feedback and update the program often.

I use Paint.Net for everything both lo- and hi- res, including Pixel Art.

Photoshop is great, but you have to be really careful with some tools, as the default option for everything is auto anti-alias. Use pencil tool instead of brush tool, when using paint bucket, uncheck the "Anti-alias" checkbox and set tolerance to 0, etc.

Since Graphicsgale was brought up in this thread, I was hoping someone could help me out with something.

I really have loved using it so far - just perfect for most of what I want to do. I was starting to get frustrated with the transparency bit, since it seemed like there was no way for me to save a file with a transparent background. Eventually I found out how to do this via batch conversion - still the only way I know how.

However, I'm wondering if it's possible to both have a transparent background AND non-totally-opaque pixels for effects purposes?

Oh, and before anyone mentions it - yes, I've been googling about this like mad. The answers with regards to transparency have been all over the place, with some people suggesting GG just plain doesn't support exporting transparencies. I stumbled on the batch conversion method by dumb luck. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Oh, and as an aside - Aseprite is definitely a close runner up. I tried that after giving up on GG temporarily and, while it's a bit odd to deal with interface-wise, I really enjoyed working with it. Plus it has support for both frames and layers as distinct entities, which is one thing that helped sell me on GG. I tried using GIMP, but having to treat layers as frames was kind of a pain in the ass.

I use ms paint. It's a great program (except for the newer versions being a pain with altered or removed features). I've been wanting to find an animation program also.

So, GG or Photoshop? I hear from videos that photoshop is also annoying to use.

simple.paint isnt super but its al i got. can make some stuff with it.
