Here's the current stage of the TMNT weapons im working on. Yes, it's pretty simple/minimalistic, but I still have a few questions before I finish.

Questions/Concerns:
-Is the random(ish) design I have for the grips and for the wood going to work or should I actually try to make some sort of a pattern?
-Might be sort of OCD for me to ask this, but should I try to fix the chain on Michelangelo's nun chucks so it isn't at sort of an offset?
-I feel like it's almost too simple of a pixel so I don't know if after I finish it would it be good enough to submit to the gallery or should I rework it as a larger size with more detail?
A few more things to say, disregard the lightsaber at the bottom, I was messing around at the beginning and just liked how it looked so I kept it there in case I want to use it later. Also I'm planning on removing the lineart and replacing it with the corresponding materials.

Yeah, the picture isn't showing up. What are you using to try to post this (dropbox, imgur, etc...).

Well first and foremost your "shading" or details or whatever doesn't even show up, it just looks like one color. The lines you've put down don't make much sense at all. They look like random jagged lines. Increase your contrast and put meaning into your pixel placement.

Hold on, the lines don't make much sense? What do you mean by that?

Your lines. In the piece. Not the outlines, outlines are different than lines. It looks like you were attempting to do the grooves in the grip but not only is the shade the opposite of what it should be (grooves are in shadow not highlight) and they are straight, but you have your lines going all over the place. Makes it look like you clicked, dragged your mouse sideways and called it a day.
Grooves are straight. Look at the actual weapons for reference, you'll see they don't have their groove lines going all over the place.

Sorry, at first I thought you meant the outlines. I'll admit you're right that I just "clicked, dragged" my mouse but I'm not really trying to create grooves. More of the grain of the wood is what I'm going for, but maybe that's what you mean by grooves.

Here's the image im using for reference:

Also can't figure out how to get Raphael's Sai right..
