Hi,

I'm Cassy. I'm project lead, musician, sound designer, writer and lead designer at Grey Rooms Studio, an independent studio getting ready for our first game: an isometric turn-based tactics roguelike.

The games we're poking at for inspiration include Nethack, the X-COM series and its various clones and remakes, Shadowrun Returns, and the Souls games (Dark Souls, Demon's Souls). The tabletop games we're using for inspiration include Space Hulk, Arkham Horror, Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, and Inquisitor. And stylistic inspirations from other sources include comics (The Vinyl Underground, 100 Bullets, The Filth), fiction (H.P. Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, Charles Stross' The Laundry Files, web-fiction series Shadow Unit) and film (Alien(s), Possession (1987)).

The visual style we're hoping for is MOSTLY "whatever we can get", but we have a strong preference for the mid-late 90s clean but gritty look of the classic Doom/Heretic/Hexen games, Diablo 1, etc., and things that look similar to that. This is because I'm making textures for the walls and floor myself using a texture generation program and a palette derived from the Quake 1 palette, so that style will fit quite well into the game.

We are going to need an ENORMOUS amount of animations, but we will settle for a few basic sprites and necessary animations for them at first -- enough to make a demo and work on finding some form of funding with it.

Also, a prospective spriter needn't work for free -- it's up for discussion, but I will heavily prefer those who will work for free because I am paying for everything out of pocket. I can provide up to $50/mo in compensation without stretching myself too thin, and up to $100/mo in compensation if the spriters be heartless and cruel (or, y'know, just wanting to eat a little bit themselves!)

I will also make offers of royalties ON TOP of any compensation asked for, though I understand the shady asshole tactics that implies and will be happy to help draw up a contract that protects both sides from douchebaggery.

I STRONGLY encourage public questions, because I understand this reads "stinks like a decaying rat" rather than "really rather decent job thing". We'll gladly provide early test builds (Android only right now, sorry iOS users) to interested spriters, to prove that yes, we are actually doing work on it. I can't promise they'll look nice or play nice yet -- we're in an early stage! -- but I can promise you'll be able to see that major mechanics are actually being made and being made to WORK.

And lastly -- things are open to discussion. I may have to put my foot down on some things, but I'll listen to most and try my best to accommodate any potentially interested artist.

EDIT: Whoops. Contact info missing!

Thank you!
