I'm starting to work on a side-scroller prototype with a friend, and im responsible for the pixel art. I have made a sort of a title screen and a character design so far. I would like some critiques and comments on both, since there are so many great artists willing to help in the forum.

There will be 2 teams (red and blue like TF2), each with around 6 characters to choose from, and i would like to keep it simple on the colors/shapes/size. The title screen was just an initial concept for art style and theming, but i'm much more inclined to adapt it to the actual character design (colorful and fantasy) than the opposite.

Welcome to pixeljoint! I love your work, by the way (over at tigsouce).
(As for the second animation)- Have you tried playing around with pixelart motion blur type effects? I think a frame of a kinda curved isosceles triangular type trail of green coming from the bat during a frame might help unify the animation. Also, the end of the animation feels too fast paced (if that makes sense).
The leg movement is pretty unnecessary, if you ask me. It doesn't make sense why it is moving in the first place. Try swinging a bat or stick or something and see what your legs are doing. I image it to be a little like a golf swing where you tilt your body.
As for the first animation, some of the hat pixels become kinda distort the original shape of the hat, during the animation. It's rather distracting. It's just weird have the hat grow and shrink instead of bounce.
Oh and when a person catches a ball they usually lower their hand to distribute the energy of the fall over time. It's just a reflex that I think you missed in that animation. Oh, and the bounce usually takes place when a person is catching and throwing a ball. Just try it for yourself: throw a ball or something up a few times and your body should be moving in sync with the ball.
