Hi, I'm new here and found this place doing a google search for pixel artists. I would like you all (All AAA pixel artists) to do the pixel graphics for my game that will make me teh millionaire. O_o

Ok, now that that's out the way what I'm really after is someone who can draw for cash. I don't know what the current prices are for game related pixel art so would like to find out the average I'm looking to pay.

I understand that everyone has bills to pay and food to buy so I'm not looking for anyone who will work for free on the next WOW Killer. :)

To try and get a basic figure of prices, what would a 2D sprite, 64/64px res, 6 frame anim walking, 4 frame anim dying, 3 frame anim jumping and an animation for attacking cost me to have produced?

I'm making a 2d platform game that I hope to sell. I'm not the best coder in the world and as I learn to code better games I'm finding that my current abilities to draw pixel art for games is limited.

Anyway, I hope this is not considered a spam post and I again say hello to all.

P.S I want to make it clear that I'm not making the next Uber733t game that will make me more powerfull than ID or EA. I'm not making an MMORPG or the next World Of Warcraft destroyer. I'm just a less than average coder with a few dreams to code.

:)

[edit] Oops, not a good start. this is in the wrong forum. Sorry :/

Yeah sorry bout that. :)

$40 seems reasonable. What I would like to know is how much time it would take for a pixel artists to do general 32/32px & 64/64px animated gamesprites?

Just to give you a ballpark figure to work with, if I'm animating a 32x32 character I can draw a full frame (no cut n' paste shifting) in approximately 15-20 minutes.  That's 3-4 frames an hour.  The time to do a fully animated sprite really depends on how fluid you want your animations, how many actions that character has, and the types of actions needed.

I work primarily in handheld/mobile games, and for a standard walk/run clycle I use 4-6 frames, depending on the size of sprite.  This cuts down on filesize, and speeds up the development time...two things which are very important in mobile gaming.  If you're aiming for PC/console release, you can go higher with your framecounts.  You can check out some samples of what I've done with limited keyframing animations here: http://nvisionillustration.com/content/pixelport2.html  (it's older work, but I haven't had the chance to update recently)

Also, I'd have to say that $40/hr is a bit on the high end.  Though I'd love to be charging that, I don't think there are many clients who would front that amount of cash (that's almost an $80K salary).  Based on what I've seen, $30/hr would be more the median price for a professional pixel artist.
