I've always been kind of bad at coming up with color ramps, so I thought I'd use what I know mathematically about color and lighting to build an online color ramp generator that makes them for me. You can find it at the link here:
http://static.opengameart.org/gradientifier/ The way it works is that you select three colors: * The color of the object being lit * A highlight color * An ambient color (which determines the color of shadows) You also select the reflectivity of your object. A perfectly reflective object is like a mirror, and has no color of its own. As you change the color and reflectivity values, a preview image will be updated on the fly to show you what your gradient will look like when in use. The gradient will always use colors from the Dawnbringer 32 color palette (other palettes may be added later if people like this tool). It will avoid duplicate colors and do its best to make sure the gradient is sorted by luminosity. Anyway, it probably makes more sense if you just mess around with it, so let me know what people think, and if there's anything that would be useful to add to it. Just an FYI for people who looked at this earlier, I've added a couple of new sliders to help create more dramatic lighting effects.
Examples: * Green grass on a sunny day * The same color on an overcast day * The same color by moonlight * The same color under a bright fluorescent light Edited by Lendrick - 18 December 2013 at 10:26am |

That is awesome. I have problems with hihgh specular/diffuse values and this tool may provide a good starting point for creating a palette.

I've made some pretty major improvements. Check out the rainbow version, here:
http://static.opengameart.org/gradientifier/rainbow.html It allows you to generate and adjust the lighting conditions on a bunch of different ramps at once, and produces a nice swatch image. You can adjust individual colors in the rainbow by clicking on them. |
