I'd drop the anime influence for now and practice real anatomy, you can return to stylization when you properly understand the forms as they actually exist. If you try to stylize without knowing the reality behind it, then it will look less like a style and more like you don't know what you're doing. The piece also suffers from "symbol-drawing"- drawing the features as they look in your mind and not what they look like to the eye. You should use references, either photographs of real people in this pose, or yourself posing in the mirror. Also draw the full bodies (even if you want to crop later) so you know that the anatomy is accurate. Here's a quick list of anatomical problems to look out for:
missing an eye, missing a shoulder, hands too small, legs are as thick at the thighs as they are at the calves, neck too small, no chin, no ears, no mouth there are also problems that aren't related to anatomy: overuse of black lines (especially on the interior of the sprites), no defined light source, and (related to the light source issue) shading that doesn't make sense (which means the forms aren't properly described. Also the skin tones lack contrast and are a bit orange. |
