If you played a well-balanced competitive action game you enjoyed regularly for fun, and its developer offered a mode that allowed you to buy some virtual currency and put it up for grabs for the chance at winning more than triple the cost of that currency you bought, which can also be exchanged for triple its cost in real world money, would you be willing to try it out more than once or twice? How about at the following price/prize?
Player puts forward $19 USD worth of currency to win $70 USD worth of currency (which can be exchanged into $70 USD) in a game that is overseen by a moderator to ensure nobody is cheating or playing unfairly. If all skills are equal, your odds of winning would be at least 1 in 5.25 -- increasing your skills increases your odds of winning exponentially. Bottom line is, is $19 too much to win $70 playiing a really fun game? If not, would you be inclined to participate in this mode of your favorite game more than once a month? |

I generally have a rule about not spending any money on a game beyond the face value of obtaining it. Then again, I suppose none of them really offer any money back.
Post more info about the game. Screenshots would go a long way if you can. ![]() |
