Great work. The logo is very nice. Try drawing your planets with the same attention to detail as the moon, and they might really pop!

Thanks for your opinions!
![]() Just added some details. @Ottbot I just added some highlight, didnt remove, I will try do this, just later, when I will be at home. @khemist000 I don't think so that removing buildings is good idea, maybe it will be more simple, but buildings are saying everything about game. One of objectives is to build buildings ;) // Edit Here is the latest version of my logo (I've got hope ![]() ![]() Thank you guys for help, it looks awesome now! I will write soon for more help, because it is a 'long' project (^-^ ) Edited by Temessis - 19 April 2014 at 9:12am |

Loving the logo, but I feel like you could simplify it by removing the structure and just keeping the moon to separate the two words.
The moon looks really cool and you're hiding it with the buildings and they aren't adding anything. Looking good so far, keep it up. |

Yes!!
Great work refining this, I think it's looking pretty sharp. Seeing it without the cars, I think it's fine without. If I'm going to nitpick at this point, the highlight of the ground below the buildings is a bit jagged in places. |

Your getting closer to something clear and readable. Good job on the moon, and your buildings have a stronger silhouette, which is nice to see. The flying cars are lost on me, sadly. Might I note that the logo is actually quite a strong scene--it feels tight, coherent, and structured. Well done! I like the first one, with a white building in the background with the black ones in front. Keep working on this, it's looking good!

I'm really bad at drawing, so I need your opinions, I'm trying to fix everything :/
I did it: ![]() These points isn't Milky way, this is Cars Way, like here: http://lava360.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/future-city.jpg Flying cars, I said I'm bad at drawing :D I think it looks better, first and second are good, but I think the best is first |

I'd go with a more simple design on the buildings if this is going to be a logo... maybe just something in silhouette would be better.
The smoke is difficult to make out... you could probably just leave it out in this case, logos should be clean and readable. The moon is looking good, but... I'm not sure what the band of dots is. I was thinking Milky Way at first, but it's front of the moon, so now I'm not sure. |

Maybe you have got right here. I don't know how about other people, but I'm programming a lot of things. My theory of programming is just "create it, and then, upgrade it", so I've got a lot of things to upgrade.
I started with planets, because that was first thing I did with this project, then logo, but in meanwhile, I created maps, GUI and other stuff, and I have to see, how it looks, to know what change, fix and add. It is hard to explain, but I'm alone and I can't do everything, especially, when I'm not as good as other people on this forum. So I put here everything I've got problem with. Anyway, I don't want especially somebody to help, because, I know me, I know that I start project and after some time, I create other one, so I don't want a situation like somebody will create textures for me or I will buy them, and after it I will end project :S but always I've got hope, I will finally end project ;_; It is hard for me to link programming and drawing, thanks god I didnt start with music (^-^ ) But I read what you're saying and I'm trying to "absorb" it and use it in other projects/textures/etc.. The funny thing is that project in your mind is always changing - from space to earth :D Firstly I thought I will create epic game space, now I landed on the Earth. In the future, this project will change, I know it ;) //Edit Idea of logo: ![]() Edited by Temessis - 17 April 2014 at 12:15pm |

Well, I think we're going a little off topic for this thread. We're currently juggling three things at once: Your planets, your logo, and your backgrounds. I missed out on commenting on your new planet, because I was interested in helping you with a logo. More focus! As for the planet...
Good, the improvement is fine. Your clouds are a little scribbled, and need defining as part of the massive, almost flat surface of the planet. Remember: The Earth, if it was the size of a billiard ball, would be smoother than the ball! Everything on the surface of a planet is almost flat in comparison to the size of the planet beneath it, whether it's clouds, mountains, oceans, continents, or something else entirely. Please keep this thread focused on one thing at a time, for the sake of all of us who want to help you improve, and discuss pixel art. |

Here I am again! I've got some good news about my game. It is going very well. I wrote a lot of code, random generators, drawing map, and all other stuff, I've got just some things to do and I think I will end this project, maybe I will upgrade it and develop, we will see.
The game for now looks like this (without shading): ![]() I use my textures, which aren't good, because they've got a lot of GIMP Filters like HSV Random generator and Color Balance Filter, and I think it should be more clear and more simple like textures in the "Terraria" game. Terrain: ![]() The most important things I should fix are backgrounds. I've got 2 simple backgrounds: ![]() ![]() I have to upgrade them, but I don't know especially how to do it :/ I know, I will add third background which will be forest. Have you got any ideas how to upgrade or fix these textures and backgrounds? I need opinions before I will "do" something with this game. Thanks :) Edited by Temessis - 16 April 2014 at 2:54pm |

I can certainly help with logos!
I can only say this: Logos must be simple. So simple. Not a scene or picture, but a tiny, focused statement of identity. A restaurant wouldn't take a picture of its menu, then make that its logo. It would use something that describes the atmosphere, theme, or meaning of the product in the simplest way possible. For instance, Starbound, a space-exploration game with randomly generated planets, has this as a logo: ![]() Really, really simple. Space is barely suggested, but the curve of a planet with a sun rising over it is enough. An artist could put this logo on screenshots, on coffee mugs, on shirts, and on the actual game. And they have! This is just one way of doing it, though. It's not wrong to have the character landing on the surface of an alien planet, but it could be too much. Cut away the unnecessary parts, and find the simplest, purest image that describes this project. It's hard, but making a logo is a very rewarding task. I wish you luck! |

Hi again, I've got now next big problem. I have to make "logo". It seems to be easy, but it isn't (for me, sure thing). I thought a little about it, and I think I will make logo with astronaut which is saluting to "the hope of new world", he's looking at this beautiful new world at which he came. He dropped his luggage (O2, H20, etc.).
It will be something like this: ![]() I'm not "spec" on drawing characters, so I'm asking you, I can say, I beg you - give me tips how to make it/fix it/improve it. I want to create something like this: ![]() Just astronaut is inverted and he just take off his helmet. Thanks. |

Where is your sun, and how many are there? Like SuperTurnip mentioned, one entire side will be lit (and although edge areas are experiencing morning and evening, a large part of those effects is atmosphere interacting with different frequencies of light). In our solar system, with only one sun, lightning can be kind of boring and predictable, but even then Sun's location will determine which half of the planets is lit.
It's always a half that's being lit - if you look at a planet from a sun's point of view, you'll always see exactly half of it, and that's what it's going to light up too. For example, here are rough locations of our Sun based on how it's lighting up our little rock. Notice the heavy contrast between lit and shadow areas. Since there are other light sources, the dark side is pitch black. ![]() Edited by inphy - 12 April 2014 at 5:37am |

Following your way of drawing, I did smaller planet and she looks like this:
![]() What do you think about this shading? //Edit I did something like this: ![]() Based on http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13560&PD=0 What do you think about it? ![]() Edited by Temessis - 12 April 2014 at 5:12am |

Good to see what you're inspired by!
Remember that the sun (or any star, for that matter!) is very, very far away from its planets, and very, very bright. This means that if something is lit by it, one entire side will be lit! ![]() For comparison, here are the first two steps of me drawing a planet. Planets are so big that it's hard to draw them using "normal" lighting used for little objects. But you'll get there, don't worry! |

@SuperTurnip
I tried to make something with AA and lighting (based on noobtorials) and I did this: ![]() ![]() but I'm not sure that it is good ^^ anyway, I don't know now how to create lands and clouds, but I will try to do it in some of the next hours... I'm trying to make something like this: http://fliperamaorama.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/palma.jpg Edited by Temessis - 11 April 2014 at 2:35pm |

If you want to add a glowing atmosphere, try making your planets a little rounder--they're not perfectly shaped right now. Then, try anti-aliasing them! Their outer pixels should blur a tiny bit into the blackness of space, and with the right colors, it looks like they have some air around them. If that's not what you're going for, and you just want clouds, simplify your planets.
Also, some of your planets have a case of pillow shading. Try lighting them side-on to add some drama and interest, and to aid with your understanding of their form. Good luck! |

They are ok not seeing other tiles and GUI and stuff.
However, these seem over pixelled. You can be simple and just as effective. If you are just getting started then consider finding your way testing with the smallest possible planet you're likely to make. Once it works on that then its easy to make bigger and keep the style and look consistent. |

Hi, I'm trying to create a sandbox/strategy 2D game, which will be in "the space", so I have to make some textures for "everything about pixelart space" - planets, stars, tilesets, buildings, starships etc.
First thing I have to ask you is that how to improve my planets by adding some clouds around them, without first planet (she is so hot, so I have to add some glow) ![]() ![]() Each planet is in "window" 32x32. I have to make A LOT of planets. I won't add and ask about all, so I need some advices or tutorials how to make planets with effects. Thanks ![]() |
