Hello pixeljoint!
I wished to add pixel art that I've made but I did not get accepted, and I am not sure why. "REASON: We're sorry to inform you that your submission does not meet our quality standards or the art needs revision for some miscellaneous reason. This is not to say you cannot resubmit the piece in the future after revising it. We encourage you to participate in our forums which include a Work in Progress (WIP) category. This is a great opportunity to gain knowledge and feedback for your pixel pieces before submitting them for approval on the main site. If you feel this is a mistake please post a FRIENDLY message in the Resources/Support section of the forum and we'd be happy to discuss it with you. Responses to this issue within the gallery site will be ignored." here are my pieces: ![]() ![]() ![]() could anyone please enlighten me why I did not get submited? ![]() Edited by ChrisN - 23 June 2014 at 12:33am |

Wow these are great ! really good animations.
The problems I see here is that they doesn't seem to be hand pixelled. Most of the time on pixel joint, we seek for pieces that has been worked on pixel by pixel, where every pixel has been carefully placed. These sure have a pixel art look, but they really look like color reduced 3D animation. I'm curious about your process, how exactly did you make those ? they do look very good. It's okay to use 3D render as a base for pixel art, as long as you get back to it manually to have more control over the pixels. Edited by FrostPumpkin - 23 June 2014 at 1:06am |

In addition to what FrostPumpkin mentions there's a lot of opacity FX.
You also submitted these at 4X which in this case was not required, needed or helped the viewer admire much. This is just a presentation option and pre scaled pixelart is something viewers who learn from others simply dislike. |

Thank you FrostPumpkin for the compliment!
I have made 3d models, rigged and animated all of them. But really, why does it matter? Is it because I can't "control" the pixels because I render them? I can just modify the geometry and voila and if I spot any issues I will be able to configure it all inside photoshop just like any other pixel artist, pretty much the same work but the only difference is that I build a stronger base before going into photoshop. If I would want to of course. I understand that I am not the first one being denied to the gallery because of similar kind of animation or different methods. Instead of embracing new techniques other people can learn, and saying no to art which pretty much resembles pixel art, is a huge mistake and restricts the artform. I find it more bad for the community than myself not being able to post stuff in gallery. Btw, I did not send them 4x, only 2x because I thought it was more clear than as a presentationform instead of using the original form. If I would send them in the original format would it be acceptable then? What do you mean by pre-scaled pixelart? Just because other simply dislike it should not equal that it is taken away. Its not like the material is offensive in anyway. Also, is there a problem if there is a lot of transparency/fading smoke so it does not qualify as pixel art? if so, why? |

PJ restricts its gallery for "pure" pixel art because (at least in my view) it has a mission: to preserve pixel art and encourage artists to continue creating it. Any art that does not fit PJ's definitions of pixel art gets rejected. Simple as that. People who create images such as the ones in the OP may not find their art welcome here. That doesn't mean the Internet lacks platforms that they can use to share their art, though. |

ChrisN, your work isn't Pixel-art, but it may have some characteristics that pixel-art has. Not all the characteristics though that make pixel-art what it is. Believing your work is pixel-art kind of proves why it shouldn't be included in the gallery, because if people were able to add non-pixelart pieces it would dampen efforts by people to cohere to pixel-art standards. People would begin having broader definitions for pixel-art and the community would become more fractured and less united.
Edit: It's my opinion, related to what might happen. I feel it is important to set example rather than throw out the rule-book, otherwise it'd be better off just a generic art community. Edited by AlexHW - 23 June 2014 at 10:44am |

We're not saying it's bad in anyway to use such techniques, actually yeah, it does save a lot of time But it's not pixel art and therefore Pixel Joint is not the place for this.
You can also take your animations and work on it manually, fixings things (those flickery lines for exemple), adding more details, interesting color management, then it can be Pixel Art in addition to being really well animated |

All have said all there is to it already so there's not much more to add, except...
Pixeljoint is open to some evolution and this has happened. We will however fight to the death before any changes are ever made and then mostly its been on technicalities and the technical. Never the technique and process. To consider your changes we would have to first have anyone making hybrids and variations prove their pure pixelart skills and processes so that these hybrids have context. You are welcome here but you need to first show the basics and your pixel prowess. We can just let you jump to the variations, you know? |

Thank you all for you answers and taking your time to clarify the issue with my previous work!
I have read some of the rules on other threads regarding what is defined as pixel art and why mine isn't considered as pixel art. I might post other more classic pixel art works gallery later when I will have a basket of art ready :) |

It's great to see you take it the right way :)
![]() Just so you know, the Pixelation site has a sub-forum "Low Spec art" which is exactly the place to showcase and discuss these animations : http://wayofthepixel.net/index.php?board=17.0 |
