Can someone please recommend or link some threads here from pixeljoint where I can get some basic information about creating pixel textures?

I am creating a level using Blender and I wanted to create some texture maps. I don't need help using Blender, instead I need some information about what size to make the textures and maybe some tips that help with how detailed or sharp the image needs to be.

For example, I will be creating stone walls for a dungeon and I will add wooden support beams throughout. In fact, very much like a mineshaft. I may even include a rail and cart.

I'm not sure where to start with the textures. How I should pixel them, shade them and etc.

I looked on the Internet and found some good screenshots of the old Wolfenstein 3D game, which is very close to what I'm looking for. So looking at that, most things are self-explanatory (I don't want to sound too dumb), except it would help to see how others may have done the same thing as far as creating the assets are concerned.

The resolution I will be using will be much higher than Wolfenstein 3D, but I will try to maintain a low resolution look to it.

Any help is good for me!

A lot of what is true for game tiles will still be true for low-resolution textures, so you can look into tutorials for RPG tiles.
As for current communities, you may want to search minecraft forum(s?) for threads about texture packs. The default texture size seems lower-resolution than Wolf3D, but people also do more detailed textures, and in Minecraft the blocks are repeated so often that people have to ensure each blocks tiles *very* well, so it's good practice.

Don't hesitate to post your progress on pixeljoint or pixelation though.
