Hi! ^_^

Thank you for allowing me to join this great forum! :D

I've been trying to create a new graphics theme for TankPit (just an online game I play). My friends have told me it's hard on the eyes.

How to have the Tron-type, illuminated cyan look for the lines and "energy" (water), but fix things so they don't hurt the eyes? I'm sorry, I'm very new to all graphics stuff, especially pixel art and sprites.

Here are two snapshots. The first is my theme. The second is the original.

I use GIMP 2.8.8

Thank you for your time and any advice!

The reason that combination looks good in Tron is because the cyan (and other bright colours) are used only as accents, they're never the main colour. In large quantities, colours that saturated will inevitably be painful to look at. Keep the cyan to accents only. Highlights, special glowy bits, things like that. Use milder colours for anything large.

I don't know what the gameplay is like in this game, but I would imagine the cyan lines would be confusing, since they seem to imply walls/paths that aren't there. I'd use a darker cyan colour and make a tileable pattern instead of just lines like that, so that it's clear that it's purely decorative. I say it should be darker because as it is now, those lines could easily overpower the units, making the game harder and more confusing to play. Use the bright cyan only on foreground elements, not the background.

Thank you very much for that critique, eishiya! You've really helped me get unstuck and back to thinking. I'm working rather slow on this (not a professional), but I'll post another snapshot after improved on it a good bit (hopefully in a few days).

Thanks again!
