Hello everyone, I've been pixelling on and off casually for about a year, but I'm starting to be a little more serious about it for the first time now.
I've drawn a couple of trees, which I'm quite happy with, but I wanted to know if there's any way to make them better.
(I usually keep all of the steps as I go along, just in case I should go back to one and do something differently.) These ones are the two finished trees so far:
I'm not sure about the shading on the upper left branches of the second tree, and I wasn't sure about the former, more vibrant colour scheme, but otherwise I'm quite happy with them. Though any advice would be great. |

What sort of trees are you trying to make? How big are they vs other things in the world? Small trees of a certain type may look quite different than large, old trees of the same type.
You may find looking at silhouettes will help you create more varied shapes. You may also find that building both the leaves and trunk at the same time, instead of one after another, will integrate the two parts. Right now they feel a little like one shape dropped onto another, disconnected from each other. Also what type of trees are these? If you want people to review these and help you you might want to let us know what you're going for. Then you can ask the question to yourself of how you turn those specific types of trees into whatever style you're going for. You can see below how very different even similar kinds of trees can look. Size, shape/silhouette, leaf clump patterns, colors, weight carried by branches, trunk shape and visiblity, etc. ![]() Edited by Iscalio - 29 January 2015 at 3:55pm |
