Hey guys,

I'm learning how to make characters and this is the latest one I've come up with. I've played around with it a lot.

I'm trying to get shapes (proportions) and shading/lighting right. What can I do to make it look better (if it helps, light source is supposed to be at the top left)?.

(Old)

PS: It's not a character I'm gonna use for anything, I was just practicing, but any comments on character design are welcome.

EDIT:

After changing the thighs, making the face longer and making the skin a little more matte as suggested:

(New)

Thanks :)

Ok, first off, nice work. I like the detail you've done on the hair. :)

I did a little remake of it. Don't know if its better or not, just made it to what appealed to me.

I added less shading and reflection to the right side, considering the light source is coming from the upper left. i elongated the face, something seemed odd about it, so I assumed it being that. Also the thighs seamed a little twigish, so I made them each one pixel thicker.

Wow though, in general its a nice piece. :D

Different materials reflect light differently. For example your skin will not reflect as much as his armour. skin and matte objects like plastic don't get dark easy and they don't get light to easy so try not to dramatize highlights and shadows on matte objects.

I've reviewed the thighs and made the face longer, as suggested and tried to make the skin more matte.

Here's the result (Also adding it to the original post as an edit)
