Here's a piece I've almost completed and I quite like it. However, I think the sky/clouds could use a little help and the details on the left are a little eh. Please give me some comments and criticisms. Thanks.

For the past few months i've been practising and practising skys in particular. I was struggling and I wanted to learn how to do skys RIGHT. As if skys were just meant to be one way and that way is the best.
There are thousands of different ways to do skys, honestly you cant go wrong, as long as your sky fits your piece. Skys are so versitile. Here are a few examples. This one I did, its my fav thing I've done and It took awhile to get it right. What I tried keeping in mind when making it was perspective, I went outside and looked at the sky and it kinda bends a little. I tried illustrating that into it. I felt it went well. This image by Jaeden is a really good example of a dither style sunset, With clouds interrupting the flow sorta. I feel you can learn a bit from this piece seeming as its kinda the approach you are trying to take. Now I guess I can address your drawing. Well the main problem as I see it is that grey cloud shooting up in the sky. It kinda ruins the whole peacefulness that the rest of the picture gives me. I would try (for the sky) to go for something inbetween my bendy cloud chunks and the sunset in Jaedens drawing. I think that would give a nice result. But in reality your sky is nice as is. Just play around with it and you'll get something you'll like eventually Edited by Limes - 14 March 2015 at 2:09pm |
