Nice start, but you will need to keep the scale consistent to make believable rooms.
(chair, table, couch are too small) work with that little sample guy on the template when you draw furniture to keep you in scale. He is your friend and overseer. Don't forget to throw some color on the walls.

Hmm, you really need to keep the saturation of all your colours about the same (at least makes it easier on the eyes) Also, it could be easier to think out a colour scheme for the room, because it looks a bit random at the moment. Have fun.

I don't think he meant darker as much as less saturatred. This seems to burn out the eyes thought it has lots of dark colors. In ms paint, you just click closer towards the bottom of the color selection box. Good luck fixing it. BTW this is a common issue for beginner pixel artists.
