A little chatbox type thing for a client. It's technically finished, but I would appreciate a little critique so I can improve next time.

(http://fav.me/d8mbhef This is the orignal character I was drawing.)

You did a nice job.
Here and in the future you could be much cleaner with those limes in the BG which are jaggy.
btw, why no seeds so they read as lemons and limes?

Clean up jaggies in limes and you could also imporove the color staturation by thickening the outlines like in the orginal.

I see you use spot for spot the same colors, but in the OP they "pop" more because of the think outlines and probably a darker BG (the DA olive vs the bright teal you have)

Thank you!

I admit, I did a rough job in the background. I tried to add more detail, but for some reason I thought white lines for each section would work? Spoiler: it didn't. Seeds would'a been nice, yeah.

Aah, alright! Thicker lines. Gotcha!

Here's another chatbox, if you had any comments about that.

Before you say anything about transparency: I'm mimicking the original style. The "water dog," as the characters are known on dA, have a recognizable transparent watery feature to them.
I didn't know what to do with the water and sand, so I probably cheated by using the thick white lines.
Any tips on textures?

edit: I also need to work on my lettering, it seems.

Hybrids are cool. Some art needs it.
I like it but agree the type is a bit of a mess.
For example the 'weight' and the lack of 'air' on the B. The two As are different. Type nerds exist, be nice to them.

I think the reason why it derped is because I used two different sized fonts. (I reference fonts.) Lesson learned, never doing that again xD
