Having noticed the sheer upload density on the front page I am going to post pieces here for critique/review and possibly progress images for those who are interested. What would be the image host people would recommend for this? I will link directly to a finished (for now!) piece for you all to dissect.

Thanks for any input!

I use imgur personally, but I know some people use postimg. I think really any image host that will let you directly link should be fine.

Well, you mentioned this was a potentially final piece so I hesitated before commenting, but ultimately I decided "Why not? He can always choose to keep it as is if it isn't helpful to him."

I do really, really like this piece. The rocks are interesting to the eye and the figure has personality without being so unique that it can't be repeated on screen.

The review that follows is purely intended to highlight aesthetically and anatomically questionable points in the work.

The following is the notated version of your original piece:

First, you have two light sources based upon shadows and lit sections. I don't know if that's intentional (I'm guessing not since that complicates lighting) but I drew some rays to show spots that display that.

Second, the legs have lighting that neither light source can clearly explain. It's almost like the light bent around to limbs and torso to give them their glow.

Third, you will notice that your forearms are a bit disproportionate with each other. I boxed over one and copied the box over the other to show that they are different lengths and thicknesses.

Fourth, your figure has a disease I like to call "Fantasy Feet" -- where fantasy artists will construct creatures using deformed versions of the human body but the lower body and especially the feet are shown supporting a weight that is so uneven that they should buckle under the torso's weight. I think the kind of weight distribution you were imagining is closer to a gorilla:

You can see in this picture that despite the gorilla conjuring an image of a powerful upper body and threateningly powerful arms, the lower body is actually pretty similarly equipped. We just don't tend to focus on that because of how they move/attack.

I hope this has been helpful for you and keep up the good pixel art!

Great job and good luck!

Hi!

Thanks for your feedback and critique, I took the things you said into consideration and made some edits, I'm going to keep the old version on my gallery for now and then upload the edited version when it is polished, some big changes have happened and I will now need to re-AA and also fix lines etc.

Also started working on another iso monster, baby dragon.
