![]() Topic: (WIP) (CC) Scirra comp EntryPosted: 12 February 2016 at 4:24pm |
I thought It would be cool to partake in the Scirra competition, as I've never worked on game assets before it would be a nice step out of my comfort zone. Recently I decided to use small palettes to help me improve my shading and thus I used Dawnbringers almighty palette, this ended being a good challenge in its own, as I've always made my own palettes. I pumped out a sprite (easy), an asset and an item (not easy). I then added a quick animation which was mostly done through trial and error. Any comments or criticisms regarding colour, shading, animation and anything else would be much appreciated, as I've hit a dead end on how to further improve it. Apologies about the flashing name. |

Thats a great start.
Its all about experimenting as you are doing. Animation is primitive but that takes time too. Keep at it and submit to the comp before deadline :) |

Thank you for the encouragement! Is there anything glaring that can be improved upon or just things that improve with practice?

I would recommend to avoid colour banding which seems there's some on that paper sheet from the first look. (orangish colours)
banding:
also try to reduce a noisness, it looks more cleaner and better then. Animations will get better with more practice. You might try to change dithering for AA (Anti-Aliasing) and see which one you like better (experiment if you're not happy with the first then choose). http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299 as someone told me when I started first you will get better, then you will get faster. Limitation of colours will help you to learn Per-pixel attention. But might not provide you an option to do nice AA, and so on. Look for compromise if you need (eg. add own AA colours to palette). Keep pixelling! |

Okay cool, I am aware of these faults but I'm unsure as to how I would fix them with the limited palette i'm using (Dawnbringers almighty DB16). I was experimenting with some dithering as witnessed on the box; it's something that I need to improve on.
I'll start by cleaning up the noise, and see if i can work some AA in too. Thanks for the help! |
