Today I tried imitating a tree from Earthbound, an SNES game with a very cartoony style. I would like feedback on the shading, color palette, and/or anything else that stands out.
My technique is to look at references and try to reverse engineer them. There is no copy/pasting involved but I definitely imitate the reference closely and there are occasional times where the pixels pattern identically over small areas. Eventually I hope to grow out of this technique, I'm new to pixel art (and art in general). Reference:

Since you are closely following the original, I suggest you watch the colors. There are plenty of tutorials on this forum about colors so I won't go in depth, but there's a reason why the shadows on the original are bluish.
