I've been working on some sprites and tiles with inspiration to TLoZ: Minish Cap. The goal would be a steampunk game about air pirates.

I'm not concerning myself with canonical size and color restriction, but I'm keeping a small palette.

This is the main character's sprite:

I decided to go with the one with goggles, since the skull bandanna one looks a bit too much like an NPC.

I'm not entirely happy about the side pose. I'd love some feedback.

Also, here's the front walking animation.

Nice. Walking too fast. Googles bounce is weird. Would be better with no bounce I think.

The googles bounce seems weird because it doesn't really match the character movements.
Just make them do the same movement as the head but one frame later, to keep them separated from the rest of the sprite.
And if it doesn't work either, just remove it entirely as JaumeAlcazo said :)

I really like the sprite though ! Nothing seems wrong with the side pose imo

That is exactly the movement I'm making them do :/ I'll try tweaking it a bit, then if it doesn't work I'll just keep them steady. Maybe a glare animation on the lenses.

The side pose is technically ok, but it still feels like it's not cute enough.

Something like that :

But it doesn't look too good either, so you should probably remove it ;)
And about the side sprite : I still find it cute in its own way. You might think the face is too diffrent, but it's quite normal due to size limitations. What's important is that the animations in both positions look the same, because in the end this is what the player will see the most :)

By the way, you should upload your pieces in 1x, it'll make it easier for edits haha

oh, thanks for the heads-up! From next time I'll upload the 1x version as well. Now I'm not home and I only have the 5x version uploaded so bear with me for this one!

Yesterday I worked on the goggles movement and made the other sides' animations. I still like the bounce, so I'll wait to see it in the game (if it ever gets made), and if it doesn't work I'll edit it out.

Also the side view kind of grew on me xD

I feel like a whole pixel of motion is too much at this scale, especially given that the head only moves one pixel. I think a more subtle, subpixel motion would look better.

I'm not much fond of subpixel motion. I've tried it and it looks blurrying and not really my style. Might as well take it off entirely.
At this point I'm thinking of seeing how it feels in the game proper (if it ever gets made) and tweak it accordingly.

Also, I made an attack animation.
