Hello there. My pixel submission "Badger of Chaos" just came back with "Revision Needed", but that doesn't make sense to me. I re-read all the submission rules but can't figure out why this came back as "needs revision". Any help please? :(

P.S. If this is a "Your pixel art isn't good enough to be uploaded" type of thing, then I'm sorry that I"m not good enough yet.

I cannot speak for the admins/mods/etc., but if I had to wager a guess, I would say the issue is the “wild” pixelling on the badger’s fur. Unlike the controlled dithering on the sky, the badger’s fur shows a lack of pixel control. Ask yourself what effect you are trying for with your pixels. Why did you place a specific pixel (or pixel cluster) where you did? What effect does that placement have on the piece as a whole?

Oh... I did control it. Was tryin to make the light look like it was hittin from behind the badger, and the light wrapping up toward the front (where I would have assumed it gets darker with little bits of light hitting it). I'm just bad ;-;

Please do not denigrate yourself like that. As long as you have the desire to improve your skills, you can improve them with some hard work and help from others.

Times like this are when I like to point people towards a blog post by author Chuck Wendig: “Writing is a Profane, Irrational, Perfect Act”. While the post reflects on the nature of the writing process, it applies equally as well to any given form of artistic expression. The key sentences from said post are the core of the message:
The idea is God: perfect, divine, incapable of repudiation, utterly untouchable.

The result is Man: fumbling, foolish, a jester’s mockery, a bundle of mistakes in tacky pants.

The main problem that beginner/less-skilled/“bad” artists have comes from an inability to accept this dichotomy. They have an idea in their head, but they cannot express it in the exact same way they see it in their head, so they call themselves “bad” and say “they suck” even though they are doing the best they can with the skills they have. Every artist struggles with this, but the artists we deem “the best” struggle less with it because they can accept “the idea is God, the result is Man” with more ease.

Plenty of people here on the PJ forums would be happy to help you figure out how to better express your idea. (I am…not really one of them because I have let my already-meager skills stagnate for more than a few months. Such is life.) If you have the desire to grow your skills through practice and constructive criticism, we can help you with that.

All I ask is that you please do not insult yourself or your art because it is not perfect. Nobody’s art is. Their end result is just as much “Man” as yours; the only difference is how much closer they got to “God”. With enough time and work, you can get there, too.

Wow. Thank you for that man. I understand it...and usually I don't think this way. Was just worried that maybe I wasn't worthy enough to post this for some reason mostly. I get the expression that you showed me, and I enjoyed what I saw. Definitely things to remember. You're a great person Stephen. Thank you.

Still need some more information as to why rejected please? (Unless the Wild-Dithering was in fact the reason)

I think it's a safe bet that the uncontrolled-looking texture was the reason.
