It is on 4chan's wiki, because after the backlash from Linux community, github censored the article, requiring readers to login: https://github.com/saniv/free-game-art/blob/master/foss-copyright-infringement-records.md So yeah, check opengameart from time to time, because these guys may plunder your gallery without notice ![]() |

I couldn't take this guy seriously. You can make a case about copyrighted work without political slurs, which littered the entire writeup. He has a point, but I doubt he will get much support presenting it the way he does and likely this is what got him banned...as really the satellite attitude is off topic and ideological preferences have no place in a discussion about real legal issues.

And still OpenGameArt has a lot of questionable stuff, like https://opengameart.org/content/lord-of-the-rings-transparent-inscription-one-ring-to-rule-them-all https://opengameart.org/content/x-star-fighter these are okay for fan art, but inviting people to use Tolkien or Star Wars derived assets in their indie games is just evil, because people will get into troubles. That is the whole point. Tolkien Estate even closed a cafe for being named "Hobbit". Of course the problem is more of an education side, but their leaders, like Richard Stallman (just read his crazy https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.en.html ), teach that copyright is evil and shouldn't be respected, while copyright owners should be fought, so Linux people in general don't feel ashamed for pirating stuff. And it is not just Stallman, here is a well respected Russian mathematician Michail Verbitsky, who is also a communist and a Linux enthusiast, published a book about why copyright must be abolished: http://anticopyright.ru |

I think your oversimplification and lack of nuance of the Linux community is really the problem.
Take for instance..if you asked me is it okay to push a little child down and I said yes, you'd probably think, 'Oh my gosh, that guy is such jerk! He'd push a child down!" But you never asked WHY I think that is okay...and if you had, you'd understand that under normal circumstances, I don't think it's okay to push a child down. But if, to save the child from, say being hit in the head by something large and metalic that they didn't see coming, I would push the child down to save them from that injury. However, you have already misconstrued and removed the nuance from my answer from the moment you asked because you were looking already to paint me as someone callus who pushes children down. I seriously think you're off the deep end and so is that author of the link (which sounds to me like it could be you). If there's actual issues of copyright infringement or lack of respect to any kind of license, the affected individuals should go to court. At no point does it require calling people derogatory things based on assumed political beliefs or 'teaching people about Richard Stallman's cult!!!11!!'. If you have an issue, then take care of. Thank you for bringing up your concern about opengameart. They're not the first nor the last to have people crying foul about reusing assets and this doesn't always happen with free-distribution outlets. In fact, it more often happens with pay software. |

Actually, that mostly happens when some shady guy/girl takes some artworks he found on google search and starts selling t-shirts with them, or some children at deviantart take other people's art and republish as their own. Both happen out of disrespect to others people's works. |

Good news, everyone! OGA finally began moving towards dealing with stolen art. So moderators now
say "Sorry, we don't host stolen art. Share something you made
yourself," and the Linux user goes all sh*tstorm about how he has the
right to steal RPGMaker2k assets and that others did it too:
https://opengameart.org/content/galacti-chrons-civilian-character-pack-mv-non-chibi >If a copyright was written in a vague fashion then it means I can interpret it in a vague fashion as well. In fact it seems like the company that makes the Game Character Hub program on steam interpreted it so loosely that they actually violated the terms by selling the parts as a collection (specifically banned by looseleafs agreement)...However I did not violate the agreement. Such passion! He could had produced some cool art himself, had he not spent that much time arguing on why he can upload stolen stuff. The states of Linux community: 1. dindu nuffin 2. others did it too! 3. laws are written in a vague fashion 4. it is not theft if <reasons why stealing is okay> 5. ok, I stole it, so what? fsck[1] you, capitalist pig! [1] https://linux.die.net/man/8/fsck Still I will never understand the "others did it too" argument. |
