Anyone else get serious wrist or hand pain? I find especially when I do pixel work that my chronic tendinitis (inflammation of the tendon) acts up in my wrist.

Are there any stretches etc. you guys do?

I find that lately I just have to ice it and wear a wrist brace at night but i'm always looking to try new stuff to help!

My doctor prescribed me an anti-inflammatory to go with the ice and brace, and I've switched from a mouse to a tablet. It takes some getting used to and you might have to mess with the settings depending on how shaky your hands are to get it to do pixel art reliably, but it's a lot easier on the wrist.

Hmmm maybe I should look into an anti-inflammatory. I've used a tablet for a couple of years now but I guess I grip the pen too tightly or something? Thinking about it, I think when I do pixel art I sometimes will get into the habit of placing one pixel at a time in detailed areas (so a sort of repeated tapping motion with the pen, ie. light up and down movement of my wrist)

I make sure to use my brace when i'm using a mouse while gaming etc. It flares up so bad when I don't lol.

Doing a lot of tapping messes me up, too. No Minesweeper for me anymore these days.

Oh no! Don't hurt yourself Malevolent! We need more of your art!
Make sure that you are comfortable when you are drawing. No slouching! (telling this to myself xd)
But since you're having wrist pain, draw like you would on a flat piece of paper.
Don't grip your pencil so hard and be light, fast and loose with your lines.
But tapping? I don't know... (be aware that this is drawing advise more than pixeling advice).

Anyway, praying your wrist heals up ! i hope you get it figured out.

@Pig_Catapult, yeah i've been trying to tap more gently lately lol

@MicmasH, Yeah I find I slouch quite a bit too so i've been switching out chairs. Can't keep working at my desk like a gargoyle lol

And nah man, no one is better than anyone, we're all out here to learn and have fun!

Hey Mal, I know I'm a little late, but you could also try experimenting with a smooth, minimally dithered style. Also, maybe what I mean by drawing like you would on paper, is to keep your hand and wrist straight. Try to draw using your whole arm rather than your wrist. Again, drawing advise, but it should translate over to a digital tablet quite well.

Interestingly enough, I have this same keyboard as thatcomicsguy :)

Oh! Additional thought: See if your pen model has an ergonomic grip accessory you can get. Mine's a hideous shade of neon orange but it's comfy and chubby and much harder to misplace now

@MicmasH, Thanks for the resources! Yeah I think I gotta adopt using my whole arm rather than my wrist.

@Pig_catapult, I'll have to check that out, I know one of my issues is that my pinky gets crushed a bit at times so maybe I should get a glove?

I'm finding that part of my issue is gaming a bit and using a mouse. I have a wrist brace when I play any games but ehhhhh I just gotta cut back on how much i'm using a mouse.

Make sure to use the arm rest of your chair. It makes a huge difference. Also make sure your chair and desk is at the proper height.

Use a gamepad for gaming whenever possible.

Use a second mouse on lef/off-hand side, and use it for tasks that require low accuracy, such as when browsing.

If you have the money, you can also get an adjustable standing desk, which is also useful for getting the height perfect.

Edit: Woah I underestimated how long ago the last response was..
