I was doodling around and made this. I did a scan and outline. This is just a rough outline of the shapes. I haven't really dug into it yet. You guys can C+C when I get some of it done.

Look, buddy, you really need to look into some perspective there, those blue boxes are all messed up...

Could be seen as stylistic i suppose. Needs some sweet texture and detail though.

I know, it needs a lot. I just started it a while ago. and the time was a little reminder to myself for something else. I just didnt take it out.

I sorta rushed it before i went to bed and just tossed some colors on it. I'll have it looking better in a few days when I decide to work on it.

I feel like i need to expand on my thought. You see, the reason I posted this was to make me feel compelled to finish it. If I post it, I feel like I'd have to finish to live up to the expectations of those on the forum. I can't live with failure, so I'd get it done, rather than let it sit unfinished in a folder.

I'm in a fairly negative mood today, but I want to help you out on this tricky image.

Seeing how that particular perspective is not really your strong point, why not try to recreate the scene you have in mind as a platform game? Something along the lines of the first level in Metal Slug when you parachute down onto the german guards sitting around thier camp fire.

It would work out a lot better and keep you safely along the lines of "pixel art" which is often isometric or platform (or top down). "Scenes" are not often done because they originally were the money shot of most games, using up terrible amounts of precious Kilobytes.

grab a copy of MAME, load up metal slug and get inspired!

The long shadows would look really dramatic (and realistic) and I think having a distant horizon would be nice, and having the big books larger than the humans by a major amount would look more dramatic. Fire is more of a big triangle with extending branches that eventually break away or receed into the main mass of it, having those individual orange spieks looks really wrong and awkward. And the yellow lines look strange, since fire gets less intense in color as it leaves the coals, so the broken off pieces should really be more of a dull red I think. The humans could also use work as far as anatomy goes. Even if you're stylizing anatomy, it's not too interesting to look at right now because they look like stiff red blobs with various mistakes. And of course the perspective just makes me say "wtf?"
