bullet Topic: Palettes!

(Obligatory Newbie Intro: I hope that this hasn't been asked/posted before.)

So color palettes, how many people use a predefined palette in their pixel art? How many people just pick and choose colors because they are awesome like that? Do you have your own special pallete that you developed after days of experimentation? Do you use one that you found of a site somewhere?

Personally, I think ever since I started spriting with a set pallette my artwork has become better. It's not so messy and I don't always end up with weird colors and shades. I use a palette that a fellow artist on the team I'm on uses and I can't seem to use anything else, it's pretty versatile (for not that many colors).

I do have a lot of palettes on my computer because I like experiement with new things and some palettes are better than others for different things (I have a palette for tilesets and one for people and etc.). So if you're willing to, post them!

For a very long time, everything I made was using the NES's pallete. Lately, I've hand picked all of my colors, once you memorize certain hues/sat/lum values, it's easy to work off of them and mold them into whatever you want. ie. 20/200/200 is my standard skintone. from there I go darker, brighter, tinted or whatever.

i don't use palettes, to me, learning is through pracice, I don't want to use colours becouse they are just in someones palette. I look around and try to see natural colours reflecting on different surfaces.

i pick my own colours. just because i'm awesome like that =D

however they are usually quite alike (and i'm not evenn talking about the black/green part guys) in things like contrast, hues and saturations. i like to have high contrast colours working together like a very dark blue-ish grey and a bright green/red/blue/orange/pink

and yeah. practice is the best thing.

I pick and choose colors as the art calls for, because I am awesome like that?

I've always picked out a new pallette for basically every piece (or set of) i make. Although like snader, i do end up making around the same colour green or skin colour in the end. I mean, unless you're doing it for a special media or style i think you should do as jalonso says and 'choose colours as the art calls for'... heheh.
