I appologise if this is the incorrect section for this type of post! Basically, I've been working on a game called CONKA! for a while now and recently Monkey O' Doom was kind enough to offer his help with getting all of the pixel art done! Now, it's come time for the first public BETA so I thought I would tell you guys about it!
![]() What is Conka!? CONKA! is a multiplayer turn-based strategy game designed for up to four-players to compete against each other over either the Internet or a LAN connection. In our eyes, CONKA! takes the best aspects of other strategy games and tries to boil them down into a simple form. A stream-lined gaming experience that is fun and easy to get the hang of, but difficult to master. In CONKA! each player represents a Wizard. A magical entity capable of casting some rather magnificent magic. These spells are capable of conjuring creatures, erecting structures, and can also be used to manipulate non-magical artifacts. The problem, as we all know, with giving a set of Wizards this much power, is that with power comes the desire for more power. CONKA allows both network play and hotseat modes. I’ve also secured a server capable of running the master list application. Which means that by v1 we will hopefully have a feature for viewing current CONKA games! I wrote CONKA! because I had a hard time with finishing projects. CONKA! was an attempt at enforcing strict milestones in my work and it’s paid off quite well. I told myself that at the 0.7.5 build I would have all of the major gameplay mechanics coded and it would just be a case of adding new content and balancing from that point on. Which is why I’ve decided to make this the first public release. It’s my first attempt at network coding so I’m sure there are a million and one bugs that I haven’t spotted (although it seems like I’ve fixed so many already!) Above everything, I’m just really proud of the work that has gone into this. It’s been a really fun time and everyone who helped out has been so professional it just knocked me off my feet. Thanks to… I’d like to thank Mark Oates for doing some incredible sound effects. I’d like to thank ‘Monkey O’ Doom’ for doing all of the great pixel art. And also my friends Alex Way and Mike Catalano for helping me test and formulate new ideas! (And not attacking me viciously when I begged them to test a new feature at three in the morning). |
