Did anyone know where I can find information about Pixel Smoothing technique or algorithm? This is for building a Pixel Art software. |

Adding this feature will make the art NOT pixelart so I would not
consider adding such a feature. It is a pixelart requirement that this
be done manually.

The Smoothing will be part of a tool with which you will be able to smooth pixel one-by-one.

Sounds very purist!! Personally, I feel whatever creates best results, is best. However you get there, you still endup with a bitmap. Insisting that you only get there by pixeling each individual pixel, is IMO, not realistic, in real-world terms. If you want to create bitmaps, and limit yourself to pixelling each individual pixel, there's nothing wrong with that. It's a great thing, for developing your skill as an artist, but why limit yourself. It's like refusing to use a calculator when doing a math A-level / degree. |

If it works for you, do it. |

Because a tool will never make something exactly how you want it to look. ever. And the second you use a tool, is the second your work is no longer pixelart. |

I do not object to certain tools that only speed up the process such as
"fills". However a tool that AAs or Selouts is in fact very much
"cheating". On this point it is unanimous, even by working pixelart
professionals, I'm sure. My comment was geared at helping you make a
product that is effective but does not contribute to cheapen/weaken
pixelart as a "style". I don't really wish to get into a pixelart
discussion about this or any other point, so will end here. Good luck
with your project.

There's no such thing as 'pixelart', a bitmap, is a bitmap, is a bitmap. It is, and always was, only a collection, an array of coloured pixels. That's the reality of what it is.
However, I guess you use the term 'pixelart' to describe a bitmap that's been painstakingly hand drawn, pixel by pixel. Is that right? If you're placing this limitation on yourself, as you make your bitmap, that's fine of course. I'd be interested to learn why you do this though. 1) Is it because you feel you get better results? (I guess you have more control over the results, directly, as opposed to using a tool). 2) Is it because you are creating 'pixelart' as a means to hone and develop your skills as artists? 3) Or is it because, it's the 'in' thing to do? 4) A combination of the above? For the purpose of creating game art, and I think for doing anything in life, what works and creates the best results, is the best. Being a purist, and just doing something because it's 'cool' is something a lot of people like to do. That's not for me though. I can't see why a tool that offers the artist the best of both worlds, and empowers them to create better art, would be a problem. Just because it also does something that breaks the prime directive of pixelart. Surely, an appropriate combination of pixeling-tools and automated-tools, in the same software package would be a good thing. I hope this post doesn't come across as rude, or offensive to anyone. lol you think purists are just jumping on the cool wagon? And you're right, it is limiting oneself, but that's the beauty of it. Honestly, would you be more impressed with a person doing Math A level in their head or with a calculator? Even if though results are the same, props to the first guy. Same with pixel art, anyone can make graphics with all these handy tools, but if someone can make things of the same or better quality with just the pencil tool in paint, that really shows some skill/talent. And you didn't come across as rude, though the "there's no such thing as pixelart" might start a mob haha |

You get the pitchforks, I get the keys. This discussion has been
discussed (ô_o) many times and no party will give in. Senselessness I
say!
