good, but I see the left side of backpack should be shorter=perspective is not correct
 And maybe shading is too smooth. I have to say its nice for first sprite

Only not. A firing gun always kicks. Wether it is a bodypart or not, that doesn't matter. When firing a gun you're always working with explosives which generate force thus forming a 'kick'. Of course, the way the shooter handles the kicking differs. |
