![]() How's this look for a ghoul? I'll probably animate it once I perfect it. |

Ok this may sound a tad harsh but it should help you:
It doesn't seem to have much form, and the lines are a tad scrappy (for instance the wobbly tail part and cornered head). I'd redo the colouring, and fix the lines before you start, to make them smooth etc. The farthest arm wouldn't curve around that far, as long as we're saying it's arms are the same length (of which it would be a good idea to make them). Perhaps also move the face round to its left a tad more, so its not crooked from its direction (which i presume is across the screen left to right). The colouring is okay, although you've mixed dithering with no dithering and therefore it looks odd, i'd removing dithering altogether and perhaps add another shade to make it look smooth because it is a ghost afterall (i think of ghouls as more like zombies). I agree with bifur that it should have more contrast, and perhaps even give it a slight hue (purple perhaps) to make it look more alive. To help with your highlighting id make sure you have a lightsource, because at the moment the highlights are very random (top front of face, back, hands..) Uhuh... thats about it from me. Although i'm pretty lame at critisising... Good luck though. Edited by Larwick |

Ghouls are more zombie-like, but names aside since it doesn't really matter.
Okay, first off I see you're working with pure grey shades. You don't want to do that, you want to add some colour to your greys, just a little so you don't detour away from the desaturated tones, but enough so that you're not using harsh grey colours. Another thing about the colour: don't use such a dark black. At the least, tone it down to a dull, nearly grey black. It's just too contrasting There are some inconsistancies. One I noticed as soon as I saw it was the light source. The body seems to have a left-most lightsource and the head and limbs have a right-most. Another inconsistancy is the texture, you used some dithering on the head but a smooth shading on the body. Some tips? I suggest adding a background. Because ghosts are widely associated with being transparent, it's hard to portray that with no background to use as a reference to what's being seen through the ghost. Also since you're using a few shades of colours, I suggest AAing. For lighting, you may even want to look into reading up on how light works with glass. Since a ghost is translucent I'd believe that the light would shine through at whatever direction the light source is coming from, and refract through the other side of the ghost with a duller highlight. That's all I can think of. |

Erm, yes, I did mean "ghost", not "ghoul". I don't know what I was thinking...
![]() Anyway, I decided to get feedback on the basic figure of it before I attempt to re-shade it. I couldn't get the arm on the opposite side to look right, so I tried it out on it's side, and it reminded me of the Grim Reaper, so I put a scythe in the hand to see how it'd work out. Maybe I'll add a lantern later if it looks good? Anyway it's getting late, so I'll post what I have now to get criticism before I go to sleep. btw, thanks everybody for your feedback. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
