![]() I did not edit it..I watched Kryons sprites and Yes i was inspired by the way his characters stance was, so i did mine by looking at his. But i did't directly edit it. Yes thank you, i also used your pallette. Sorry for not asking for permittion or so, i hope you could forgive me. As im not the best with characters i found yours shaded and coloured in the best way, so i pretty much used your stance and colours. I am currectly animating them. Here is what ive come up with. ![]() Thanks Edited by ZoSo |

I did not edit it i found yours shaded and coloured in the best way, so i pretty much used your stance and colours. ^^ That's called editing, my friend. Or, in more obvious terms, ripping. Unless whoever provided the sprites provided lineart for freeware use and you made all of these sprites and shaded them from scratch. If you just edited someone else's already shaded not freeware sprites, that's called copyright infrindgement. Also, using someone else's colors is also ripping them. It's frowned upon generally in the art community, without a doubt. Edited by Aleiav |

I did't edit, since i did't directly use his sprites. I simply watched them.. Its pretty much, copy or do something in the same style.
And using the colours? Its not like he own them :?. Ofcourse ill give the credit to him for inspiring me. |

The face is an exact rip, the rest (including hair) is slightly different.

That's still uncreative IMO, unless he offered a sprite tutorial. And using the colours? Its not like he own them :?. Ofcourse ill give the credit to him for inspiring me. No, he doesn't, but a lot of people put a lot of thought into their pallates. Picking good colors that look realistic and good aren't second nature. It takes practice. So to take someone else's colors without permission is basically using someone else's talent rather than perfecting your own. |

Using someones elses pallette untill im good enought to understand colours , so i can make my own pallette . There is surely nothing wrong with that.
... Its not like im selling the graphics i dont realy understand why people make a big deal of it, im simply practising and showing off what ive come up with. I know ive should have give credits couse i watched his sprite and used "his" colours. And im sorry i did't, bah whatever. And its not a rip, watching someones sprite while making mine can end up pretty much the same, for god sake your pixel artists if you were born with the skill of drawing or pixeling or whatever i wont blame you for accusing me of ripping something i started from sratch while looking at something else. But for those who werent, and was practising themself should atleast remember when they tried to learn something might have ended up the same. A face is an very good example, since thats pretty hard to shade if your no good with character anime forms and such. And im not, but calling it a rip is wrong. Edited by ZoSo |

ZoSo, i'm sorry if anyone offended you, but we're just finding out what you did yourself. To be honest, because it was in the resources and support section i thought you were asking whether it was okay for you to do what you were doing. Obviously this is more of a WIP now i look at it closely, why did you put it in this section in the first place? I'll move it for you.
And we're not making a 'big deal of it', just discussing the subject. Also, i'm afraid even if you do it from scratch, if you make it exactly like the original (such as the faces) then it has to be called a rip, even with different colours, seeing as it's just like taking the image, and changing the colours in the first place. Now it's in the WIP section you'll be able to get C&C for your actual work. ~ |

I can understand practice, but you'll never be able to draw things on your own in pixels if you don't at least try. You basically copied by eye. I can understand using a reference picture and doing that, but not reference pixel art. If you want to practice drawing clothes or shading, why not use lineart instead of copying someone else's design? That would give you practice but you'd still have to come up with your own colors and shading techniques.
And people may do this starting out, but they don't do it once they've progressed. Mostly because they've realized that copying someone else's design by eye doesn't in fact give you any practice. That's my opinion. I'm not trying to offend you, but I don't think what you're doing is helping you artistically at all. And if they were my sprites, I'd be pissed with you. Of course, each artist has their own tolerance level when it comes to "inspiration," but I don't think what you're doing is an okay thing to do IMO. |

ZoSo, why not try modifying the faces to a more original face. The
inspiration will remain and then others can focus on the other 3/4s
you've work out on your own.
I still say colors are free and up for grabs, only dollers think they own them! |

I will try, and Alevai if your smart enought to see i did around 10 different and original clothes and armours you can see that im basically practising in doing stuff from scratch, im just no good with character forms and such so i kinda needed a "template" to look at while i tried to draw something from sratch, im for some reason i liked the stance of his character the most =/.
And copying by the eye does give you practise, it makes you understand it better. Watching something and tryin to draw it while looking at it helps you ALOT it making your own, Aleiav i doupt you made your avatar without looking at something.. a pic -_-. Anyway i wont use em for nothing, atleast not anymore. Yes i understand the owner can be angry , i even think i would be. I did't think of my actions i simply were desperate of doing characters and when i could't get it into a good form i found his the best to practise with. |

I will try, and Alevai if your smart enought to see i did around 10 different and original clothes and armours Really? Because it looks like many of the parts are extremely similar, just recolored. At least 12 of your sprites have the same exact hair style, just recolored. If you're "no good at character forms," practice them. GET good at them. Don't use someone else's design unless it was meant to be a template. Not every piece of art is for tutorial and instructional purposes. That's why people MAKE art specifically for tutorials. Just because you're not excellent at something, doesn't mean you can just copy someone else. And copying by the eye does give you practise, it makes you understand it better. Watching something and tryin to draw it while looking at it helps you ALOT it making your own, Aleiav i doupt you made your avatar without looking at something.. a pic -_-. Yeah, a picture. A reference PICTURE, not reference pixel art. I picked my own colors, I did my own shading. I didn't look at another piece of pixel art. That's my whole qualm. Using reference pictures is okay, and that DOES help you because even when you use reference pictures, you still have to chose colors and try to figure out how to pixel it. When you use a piece of pixel art as a reference and you just make your sprite look like his, that's not practice at all. That's just copying. I'm still of the opinion that this isn't practice. I have no problem with looking at other sprites to see how they interpreted anatomy, but unless the template is provided as apart of a tutorial, using someone else's interpretation isn't creative. Next time I would just think about what you're doing before you do it, especially if you know you wouldn't like someone doing that to you.
I still say colors are free and up for grabs, only dollers think they own them! I've seen pixel artists get finicky over colors. It's not just dollers. |

Individual colors are a depletable commodity, but collections are property, IMO. Does anyone have a link to the base that these were allegedly edited from/based on/inspired by? |

Well, not property. A palette credit is required though.
