Well I just needed to post before my membership was denounced!
On a softer note I have been diligently working for real money. THey keep hiring these hot little 16 year olds and it sucks becuse i wouldn't dare have a 16 yearold girl. They need one that's like 18......yeah....
Oh and I have beend drinking diet coke quite heavily, about 5 cans a day.
I am still addicte to the Good and Plenty candies, it's just a shae that they are not a manly shade of color. They are pink and white. But the sweet nectar! The sweet nectar i say!!! We neecds it!
Also I think leel gave me too many cookies cause it made my forum not log into to the main Database. I couldn't not log into the Picksiel Joiynt. Your kind donations ar accepted.
Aslo, I have taken up romancing.

Hah, I guess I have quite a left-field style of 'cooking'. I also recommend wine mixed with coffee.
 A bit like Irish coffee except with wine instead.

I am just going to vent/rant:
This piece was submitted to the gallery and is awesome in so many ways. Anything Ken makes is awesome and all the respect he gets he surely deserves. However, the sky was made using the airbrush tool and is NOT pixelart. I find this totally unaccepable for Pixeljoint and what its about (pixelart). If anyone with lesser stature tried that he/she would be flamed to death, deservedly so. I even dare say that it should have been sent back for revision. However, since its Ken not only is it ignored. It is praised and faved by many who know better (or should). One comment even makes excuses for it. This sets a terrible example to those who are new/learning. How do you explain why their piece is rejected, if they see this? I find this unfair to all members of this community. Mm. The rest is pixel art. Just make note that part of it is (NPA) and it should be fine. I don't think you can toss out a whole piece just because one part is not pixellated. And just because you can whip up exquisite backgrounds doesn't mean everyone can. Jerk.

Keep in mind, it is a mockup for a game. I've seen other mock ups or works in the past that have combined non pixelled elements with hand pixelled sprites. A good example would be my Dinosaur comic that features text that I did not create dot by dot.
I think it would be silly to have someone create an entirely new background, that would never appear in the game, just so we can appreciate the screenshot on PJ. That said, I definately agree that Kenneth should have made it clear that portions of the work were not hand pixelled. But I disagree on another point. Kenneth Fejer isn't INCREDIBLY well known here at PJ, he has a greater reputation in other places. If a newbie to PJ created a work like this, then yes, I think people would suggest he redo the background or suggest he acknowledges the NPA parts. But I can't foresee a barrage of flames towards someone with similarly impressive skills. So perhaps it isn't reputation that meant Kenneth's work wasn't rejected, rather, the fact that the rest of the work portrays excellent pixel work, which only happens to be enhanced by a small portion of non pixel art. Definately worth discussing, and I'm sure there will be disagreements. |

It's just the backdrop. It's not like the whole thing is cg. Incase you didn't know, Kenneth uses npa techniques on his mockup backgrounds fairly often from what I've seen. Whether it be simply messing with opacities to make things look farther in the distance or airbrushing clouds. I could understand your point if the entire thing was covered in "dirty tool" evidence, but seriously... it's an effing cloud.
Oh look, another gradient background, where were you here, jalonso? I mean, it's a gradient, it must be removed. Disregard the fact that the rest of the image is pixelled. Edited by Blick - 19 July 2006 at 1:16am |
