If Flameruler13 or Mutantenemy made something that good, I'd FIRST work my ass off trying to find where they stole it from, and THEN, after I decided it was legitimate, congradulate them on an outstanding improvement. And maybe mention that they should mention the background as NPA, if I noticed it was.
So no, I don't think it'd matter WHO did it, as long as the NPA is more or less insignificant and surrounded by quality pixel art, not to mention BACKED by quality pixel art. You can't deny the past works of someone merely because you want to be fair to everyone, because that isn't fair to the people with stunning past works.
ALSO! The HUGE difference between Ken doing it and a less experienced pixel artist is that Ken does it as a stylistic and efficient way of completing a work, rather than just laziness. He COULD pixel clouds rather well if he wanted to, but an airbrushed background would shorten the time taken and look better without significantly maiming the pixelartness of it.
I think you're being overly zealous here. I know you love helping the new people, but you're pushing too hard to drag the people past that back down to it. I could understand if it stood out, but it doen't, really.
And if you REALLY want fuel for your fire, argue about how THIS:
http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/4708.htm is still in existence because the artist has shown in the past that he does have the skills to complete such a work, despite it REALLY looking like a photoreduction.

It's a shame since it's a really nice piece, and show be sent back for revision.. Ken* should just leave the bg a single colour or something for now..

Jal has a point about Ken's reputation.... but to be honest its not really a big deal. If someone is good enough to get a reputation as big as his then i guess they can use a few tricks - because we know they can do it without the tricks anyway.
Besides the gradient isnt used to enhance the pixel work - and thats all im looking at. |

i know we're back to randomness, but i think i agree w/ jal on the 207 discussion. Ken probably shouldn't have to redo it, and probably mention that the bg isn't pixelled, but I definitelly agree that if someone new posted somehting like this we'd pounce him/her rather than praising that the REST is hand pixelled.. i've seen that happen a bit.. there's this person in the gallery who has a whole load of super cute stuff in her gallery, and everything is covered in rainbows and sparkles that are so clearly NOT pixelled and yet everyone congratulated her on making something adorable (at least the last time i read.. a while ago) i dont know if anyone else mentioned that it's not all pixelled. soo just throwing this out there, we might be just a little bit harsh on noobs here |

Even if it IS one cloud (which it isn't), what if it were two clouds? Or three? Where are we to draw the line? At none, I say, NONE! I've seen the excuse used that, because its a gba mockup, and such backgrounds are common in gba mockups, that it is acceptable. But this is not a site for gba mockups, it is a site for pixel art.
Just to note, I still loved the piece.

If I had it my way, slay's gallery wouldn't exist. I don't like seeing anything that isn't pixel in a pixel art gallery. I'll agree that slay is a far worse issue, Ken is an actual pixelartist (a damned good one), and doesn't lie about the legitamacy of his work.

Wtf that's so unfair. Aleiav's obviously been in the pool playing trivia faaar longer than me.... or she's just good.
It sucks when you have someone who you know/think is submitting NPA but you've got no way to absolutely prove it, and when you suggest it they go friggin spazzout on you. If we did go all out and send back his whole gallery we'd have a mutiny on our hands. |
