Jasc Animation Shop allows you to import most video formats like avi and mpg... and export them as a nice gif of course.
It's not free, but if you're only gonna use it once you can just use the trial version (exact same thing, just a 30-day limit I think). (of course there's also the not so legal way of acquiring the full version for free) iSTVAN: Nasty! Great stuff nevertheless :) |

If you aquire PSP 8, you get Animation Shop 3 for free... it's a nice little bundel, but a tad annoying to use.

 Ha.Anyway, using it can be quite tricky, it takes time to work the frames correctly, and savin itself can be frustraticing, constently having to change the 'quality' things so it keeps your origninal colours - It will chnge them.. but I think I've got round that now. |

I find it exceeeedingly simpel. Learnt how to use it well in about a week. And whenever i save i always save it as the highest quality, just so there's no chance of any change in the image upon saving. Also that way, it gives you much more freedom to save an image how you wish (if it's just black and trans, you wont have a huge filesize, but if it's really detailed etc, you wont lose quality) Also it opens up really quickly, just like paint, so there's no faffing around. :D

WTF? GTFO!
The best settings are Optimized Octree and Error Diffusion, with as many colours as possible! If you're doing a photo or something, then error diff is the best, because you'll hardly lose any noticable quality. If you used nearest colour it would get a horrid posterized look. And if you're doing it with pixel art (with max colours), then that part doesnt matter anyway.  Edited by Larwick - 26 July 2006 at 5:56am |

Maybe it's just the colours I use

@MoD: Bah, I stopped playing that game years ago! I was annoyed at the impossibility of getting every item on your own. Good game though.
@Souly: Perhaps you could save them as a PNG and make the AA in the alpha channel, then they would suit all the colour themes. Ah, I'm making a really jazzy tune atm. I don't even have a bass guitar so I tuned my regular one down by an octave. You can hear what I've made so far here. I've kept the amen break a bit non-dynamic so that it fits with the feel of the tune. I can't wait to record all the solo bits. |
