Is that a painting in the backdrop, or a window?

it's a painting painted in a painting in MSPaint :D
[I don't believe windows have shadows cast on them quite like that; see long beaker] |

I can't remember where I was at last post, but yeah, I'm updating/working on this almost constantly. I love how the shirt sleeve, hair, fingers through the hair, eye, almost everything is turning out.

loving the colour and general softness of this scene. And what's that? An actual eye? Sweet! Lose the monocle in my opinion though

I updated the name due to IRC suggestions. I gave the little mouse a smoke, added an ashtray [or lines, anyways]
I think I'm going to keep the monocle there, for character design's sake [you don't see many young stoner slash scholars in dressy clothes wearing monocles, do you? ;D] I forsee problems with either the lamp, or his elbow, suprisingly the parts I thought I'd have problems with [rat, hand in hair] I haven't had any problems, although other parts that seem simple [hand on desk, paper on wall] are being a pain in the ass to get looking good. |

I personally rarely see desks that make it so the chest level, it's just an uncomfortable height since people often put down their elbows on a desk at one time or another, and having to put your elbow level with your chest to get to the desk is awkward. I'd say lower the desk entirely at least almost down to being level with the elbows.
Then the head is really mishapen, even considering any stylistic choices. The deep shadow in the center of the face makes it look like a shallow dip, the one cheek being much larger than the other, the nose like a wooden block with two holes punctured through the bottom, the lips being so small and eyes being so high up, it could all use a lot of fixing. Having the monacle opaque is strange also. |

Well, I fixed up the face [I'll probably go over it later, add a few colors and kill the dithering], and I'll get to the monocle later as well.
As for his position, I don't think I'll be changing that, he's slumping down, not sitting up straight, studying, rather he's not studying, just staring at the text, doesn't want to be there, etc. more of a person who doesn't want to be where he is. I've also done a ton of other updating, not exactly sure what, I'm not keeping track, just uploading periodically. |

to show that he's slumping in his chair how about showing a bit of the back of the chair above his head? I think that would make it clearer that the desk is at normal height.
I love the background! the colors and the titles on the books - very cool d(^_^)b

when slumping, the head lowers, shoulders raise, elbows broaden, and head tilts forward a bit
