I am currently working on an online RPG game in PHP, MYSQL, JAVA, and xml. I'm looking for artists who would be interested in joining the project by contributing artwork here would be the details ^^

1. Company Info -  The name of the game is Arcane Isle. It is a new project, so there really is no company or anything just me ^^

2. Job Info - Basically I’m looking for all kinds of art work ^^, monsters,  people, buildings, maps, equipment! Skip to the bottom and I’ll explain most of the specs on the artwork, so you can get a better idea.

 

3. Paid or not? and salary info? , Sadly no pay, I plan on having the game be free ^^ everyone loves a free game. Therefore sever costs and such come out of my pocket, which is fine ^^

5.company website www.arcaneisle.com , this is just a blank news page, the game is behind the scenes right now, all in code form, im been developing the modules, haven’t done the site yet ^^. the actual game is located in subdirectories in two alpha versions, but since it all code and test modules I won't post them yet dun want to goof the database ^^

6.previous projects Well lets see, I’ve coded several PHP projects for friends and stuff, no big projects yet this would be the first ^^

ok now on to the detailed information ^^

 

The game style:

Typical browser based game, click and point to navigate, equip, fight and such. It is an RPG and as such, you will battle monsters, explore maps, and l8r on challenge other players!

 

Battle System:

To avoid a typical battle system of "click attack, click attack, click attack, click heal, click attack, woohooo... I win" I've incorporated a system some other web RPGs have, when you encounter the enemy and proceed to fight him, your character will fight the enemy on his own. The results will then be available for you to see. He will attack, use magic, and skills according to what you equip on him/her (spells are equiptable and have pros and cons and triggers) (example, restore, a LVL 1 curing spell will trigger if your player is under 25% mp and will cure himself instead of attack, all this is based on various stats of course). This is general how the system is working out.

 

game system:

 

you start out by picking a gender, a class, and put into a town, you can buy weapons, buy a pet, buy magic spells, learn abilities and quest here. You can then go out onto a map (towns will be html linking images) then the outside maps will basically be large scale array maps (30x30 or whatever) you then are given a coordinate and can travel in any direction (a picture displaying scenery from the current area will show for a nice graphical touch, trees, a forest, a river, a mountain range, a caravan etc.) as you move u can encounter random battles (see battle system above). that’s basically all i have worked out ^^

 

Character system:

 

Possibly the best part ^^, i want players to be able to make a portrait of themselves how they see fit, displaying their equipment on their character, (much like dolls). So when they pick a race and a gender they will assigned a "base", and default hair. (as well as under-linens =p) then when they equip armor it will display on their characters portrait (using hover images in div tags this is very workable ^^) the downside is unless we want different images for each race (different for gender is fine) the races will have to have the same body structure (same body size, same head placement etc. (so basically its a doll you can customize by buying and equipping equipment ^^.

 

 

My explanation may not be the best, but please feel free to ask questions. I understand this game is not finished, or out of alpha, so why post you ask? because if people are interested they can make graphics now, they take time just like scripting does and I need to work out image sizing, (how many pixels wide and tall and default backgrounds for players portrait going to be, what’s the default size for the armor, etc) it’s a lot easier to script and work with, if i have images (and since I’m no artist, I’m looking for some who would like to join on ^^) and of course once their is a alpha version that displays some of this ill post it.

I like the idea, website needs alot of work. Maybe you could make a really nice website and it may attract people to it. Maybe get some screenshots of the game if there are any to show off.
