When I finish this, i'll get to hosting my site for my 1 year pixeling anniversary. Eye-burning, isn't it? I'm sort of stuck on what to add, but it seems sort of plain right now. |

I think it looks rather cool. Once you add some copy/logo thing it should look good. I suggest staying in pure black and white to pick up on the frame.

You mean, stay black and white in the actual site, right?
Or do you mean the text on the header itself? I'll upload an update, i've been working on it in the past 30 minutes or so. |

I meant the text on the banner itself say starting on the 3 trees on the left (overlapping a little bit) til the little roumd one on the background. Some mini copy could also be on the bottom left on the darker shade hill (say the site version or something like that)

Ah, I think I understand.
So, like this? :

yes rogue. The main text part can be moved over to the right a bit more. Use black and white an go longer, at least to the very light round hill. The secondary move all the way to the right. Over the darkest hill area.
One thing I may like is rounder tops on the very pointy peaks back there. Your overall layout is sweeping curves and those pointy caps kinda kill it. On the front 2 hills, the darkest ones. try extending the very front one more towards the detailed tree for more dynamcism. One other thing is the 3 trees where the main text is have a great silouette. I would mimic that shape on the detailed tree. Same proportions especially the trunk to complete a "world" Do leave the very round tree in the middle hill it balances out your scene well. E: typos Edited by jalonso - 15 September 2006 at 9:29pm |

I'll add one comment just so that I won't miss your edit ;)
The cloud may have to go (or at least lighter) once you add the logo/text. When choosong a font I would go with a modern straight line font if you want to make the overall look more masculine/bold. Curvy filigree type font if you choose to go with a more moody sensitive/feminine look. Of course some antique looking font would be cool too. If you choose the right one it could add mystique. |

Here's a little update, might be final :
I removed the black and white frame because the ORIGINAL header was going to be something like this :
The font added some extra AA colors, but i'm not really concerned about colors. (I want to keep the detailed tree detailed, i'm not sure if you thought I should change it or not.) |

In the new one, the trees on the hill on the right look weird. I'd change those to the style of the tree in the front on the left side.

Oh I see about the black and white. I like the update. What I meant about the detailed tree is the opposite of what Alieav mentions. I meant keep it detailed but the shape of the mushroom looking trees on the rear hill. Either way nice job. Font looks nice, even if not hand pixelled.

i really like the colors you have here...some things you could do however is improve overall shape, AA to get rid of jagged edges...
such as the foreground tree, i think the trunk is a bit fat for the leaves,, |

To be honest, the 'trees' on the left WERE supposed to be mushrooms. The theme's a fantasy type thing.
But I changed it a little bit, and it still looks fantasy-ish. I'm declaring this as final, as soon as I can make a decent preview pic i'm submitting it to the gallery. Thank you all for the awesome critique, it helped a lot. Edited by Dark Rogue - 19 September 2006 at 6:16am |

I think using a pixelled font is a requirement for jalonso's favorite rule.
