25 colors. O.o;
I think it's time you reduced your pallete there. Such a small peice dosen't need 25 colors unless the color change is NOTICABLE. |

Thanks for advice. |

I also think you need some anatomy work.
I don't like how the hips are so small and the legs are so big. I mean his legs are basically bigger then the rest of him. I suggest you study some of indigo's work. http://www.spriteart.com/indigo/ He's got some really good example of larg muscular characters. |

![]() Colours reduced, it's not so bad without all colours from old palette, used a lot of dither. But about anathomy, it was ment to be that way, his legs are ment to be massive. Plus those pants are baggy, that makes his legs to look even bigger. |

Here's a touch of advice. Whenever people offer criticism, try it. Now I'm not saying you handled any C&C poorly, just that sometimes other people will be seeing things you're failing to. So souly is saying the anatomy is wonky. You justified it, saying that it's supposed to look like that. The problem there is that the anatomy IS wrong, whether it's supposed to look like that or not. I'm faaar from an expert in anatomy, and even I can tell that his arm currently looks more like a caved-in macaroni noodle than a muscly-buff gunshow. You also say his legs are supposed to look thicker, because he's wearing baggy pants. Go put some baggy pants on. Do they make one of your legs look as thick as your waist? I should hope not. Before you justify things, actually try them, show the edit, and explain why that doesn't work for you. You never know, maybe a whole bunch of people will love the one you don't like, or maybe people will agree with you. In either case, it's sorta disrespectful to just cast aside crits without trying them, first.
Apologies if I come across a little hard. I'm really making a statement for anyone that comes across this thread, not only you. I do not mean to say there's no hope for you, or that you suck really bad. You've got a fair grasp on a number of aspects, and just need to hone a couple more.
Go back, study other works that are similar to what you're trying to produce, maybe talk to the artist if you can (Indigo, if he has time [sorry for wh***ng you out, man :P] is quite the nice chap, and will most likely be rather willing to give you some pointers) and try use their ideas in your work (But don't steal palettes or lineart, make your own if y'can :P)
Another fun (and scary) thing to do is crit every possible thing you see wrong with your piece, and ask people to point out what you missed.
Heh, I think I've said enough. Good luck!

Also, his feet both point outward.
He must be very uncomfortable. |

![]() So, this is an orc from WoW. His legs are as big as the rest of body. ![]() Btw. ive changed his hands and left foot , im not shure that this foot is lookin as i want it to (more straight toward the viewer). Palette change too, i was forced to use darker colour as outlines due to hands change. Edited by Onigashi - 01 October 2006 at 5:14am |

His legs may be large.
But they are all scaled. His legs are appropriate size. Everying is anatomicly correct. Where as your guys has freakishly large legs and shriveld prun arms. |

You don't necessarily have to thin out the legs, just make his upper body more buff..

Okay. Please stop trying to justify things.
On that orc, ONE of his legs is NOT thicker than his waist, whereas on yours, it is. I suggest broadening the waist, so it doesn't look so off.
Also, on that orc, his calves are covered in a thick, insulated material, which explains the thickness.
New reccomendation: Draw the entire guy, sans clothes, in rough anatomically correct detail, THEN add clothes to fit.
Yes, yes, it IS the blind leading the blind, but I made some changes that I believe better the piece:
Do not by ANY MEANS use that as a resource for anatomy or musculator musculation. It's wrong in ten thousand ways. BUT. I do what I can, so pshh. The idea was to give you an idea of the shapes/pose I was thinking of, while not completely botching any anatomy. His arms still suck in mine, and he has no neck to speak of. His legs are also overshadowy, but you can get the idea of shape. Yeah. Hopefully I was helpful, and you don't try justify anything on me :) Edited by Saboteur - 02 October 2006 at 12:32am |
