i making a website for my self, based after one i saw(forget what it was)

well, basically, its just a couple boxes....ya....

here it is so far:
http://www.freewebs.com/skeddles/new.htm

that box stays, and all the other ones are links, that change on every page.

*might make the whole scheme darker

1. It was souly's website.
2. I can just barely make out that there is even a drawing on there, so up the contrast and maybe add some more interesting colors?
3. Why make a website SO similar to Souly's?  I mean, it's ok to be inspired, but you're practically copying his idea.  Put a new twist on it or something, make it more original.

yeaa..

No offence, but do you just hate bright colours?!

Make the background brigher.. so at least then people don't have to strain their eyes / blah blah blah / depending on their screen settings..

I'm sorry to make you sad, but I'm just being honest so that when you do finish it people will want to come back to the website.  And as it is now, I can see myself getting tired from straining my eyes really quickly.  You're right, you CAN see it, but what we're saying is that you could make it so we could see it BETTER.  Websites are generally supposed to suit the needs of the viewers, because whats the point of having one if no one can enjoy visiting it?

I just lightened it a bit and I think this would make it more view-able, while keeping it dark and.. moody.

its not really about what you want when designing  website.  it is hard to see, and remember a majority of people out there have their monitors set differently than others.  there is hardly any contrast at all on it, i had to tip my monitor just to get an idea of the details.

You have a website. You want people to read the text on your website. People will realize that if the creator of the website doesn't even care if they can see the text or pictures, they probably don't have anything worth the effort it takes to read it posted on the site.

you aren't getting the point.  if you want a website that people will see, such as a portfolio, then you need to make it accessible by people who don't have properly setup monitors.

back in 96, my friend and i had a competition kinda thing...  i told him a high contrast site would get more visitors than a lower contrast site...  so my site was black background with white text, his was white background with gray text.  mine received 6000 more hits than his did, and mine is still around to this day.

it is all up to you, but if you want people to actually visit your site, make it readable.  my monitor is perfectly set up, and i still have to strain to get all the details in.  and i can gaurantee that 99% of the surfing public arent going to adjust their monitors just to see your site.

Looks ok on my LCD monitor but still a little dark for my tastes.

On my CRT monitor it is totally illegible....looks like a black square.

On my laptop LCD it is readable but still very dark.

FYI:  Most people will not waste their time on websites that are too dark and hard to read.

Telling people that their taste in monitor settings is wrong will piss many people off. Go lighter or drop the project.

My monitor is properly set up (points to sig) and it's still difficult, if not annoying, to see.

It's not like the background color is key to the piece or your website. It's just a simple color change a few pegs up in brightness. Why not make it?

An edit is a gift a thoughtful member bestows upon you in the hope that you will use it to improve. This one seems to be an opportunity for improvement in the attitude department.

I like the lighter more vibrant version more than the dark one

question though - why is the bottom right corner different?

on the website?

because im going to have art and stuff on some pages, and if there are more than what fits, that changes into a more button, which brings you to another page.

ill probobly stick to the bright one, maybe make the lightest color more yellow...
