Looks OK so far. I don't see 3 yellows being used, and there is very little use of the second green. Maybe adding a third green to outline the leaves and a dark yellow to outline the shoots would be nice.
The pot idea is fine but consider a BG scene like, where the bamboo is the foreground and some Asian landscape behind it. ps: Like real life on a forum you only do wrong by behaving like an asshole or personally attacking others. |

I know its a stylistic choice really. Things just look much better without black outlines.

Hello Yoggii,
When reading other posts I saw frequent refrence being made to google picture search. As a starting point I would suggest the same to you for your ideas. When doing it for you I noticed some pots that where way too small for your bamboo, so you have to keep your eye out for something that would hold your bamboo. It depends also on what you want to do with the piece you are making. Is it 'just' a picture of bamboo, then I would say use more structure in both bamboo and pot, background and so on. If you makes this for a game, it depends what kind of game it is. A fighting game needs different atmosphere then a adventure game. If it is for a competition I would suggest to have more detail and do something with lightning. So in order for me to give more ideas I really would need a little background in what you plan with this pixel-art. Best regards from M.E. Edited by M.E. - 10 March 2007 at 4:40am |

Hello Yoggii,
If you want to improve your skills my advice would be to work from 'real' life. Try to set yourself a color limit. 8, 16, 32 it doesn't matter as long as you are happy with it. You can even start with less colors and continue to add. But I would suggest to make the complete thing with the limited color and add colors later. Just search for something on google image: http://images.google.nl/images?svnum=10&hl=nl&gbv=2&q=bamboo+pot+flower Pick one of the images and try to reproduce without copying anything. Drawing / pixeling from memory is something that is really, really difficult. You would not need to copy it , just investigate what bamboo does when it is inside a pot or on the water side. Use the image as a reference. It will be difficult at first and you might need to throw away previous images. Hopefully this will not discourage you to keep trying. There are many people here on this forum that I have learnt who are very nice and willing to help in the process. Show us your reference picture and your own interpretation of it. You can even take several reference pictures and 'built' your own new picture with it. Maybe combining different things.... Best regards from M.E. |

Ahem, Please do not ask me to AA anything (I can't do it very well ;)
But this is looking Quite good so far, removing the black outlines definately helped. With the pot, i'd make it look like the Plant goes all the way down, not just stop half way, and make sure the shading maked it look 3d, and also remove black lines at the end of it all, Good luck Kfuchoin. |

I think you've got a too saturated yellow for bamboo.
