------ README  NOTE -------------
i have used the search button and made a search on
new to pixel art, new to pixelart and new the two first i had a search error
"One or more of your search criteria is below 3 characters" so that didnt go so well and new well it gave very much but nothing that fitted me.
--------------------------------------------
Now to the thread
I am new to pixel art and wanna try it out but the software I use ain't for pixel art, I use Photoshop CS 3 Beta and the grid doesn't seem so willing to put the pixels in the boxes rather anywhere but inside it. The same was on Photoshop CS 2.

So my main question is:
Is there any Software specific to pixel art with this 2 "most wanted" included

1. Free OR Cheap (100$ isn't cheap 10-20$ is)
2. Mainly for pixel art and available on Windows AND Linux (not a must)

Tutorials:
One tutorial I really like is the one on SpiritArt.com
Is there anymore tutorials sites with tutorial for the beginner and up?

------------- Endnote --------------
This is for people that like to flame newbs that comes with this
kinds of questions, there is a GREAT tool for that 100% free in
windows and it's name is Notepad, in Linux you have Kate, nano
etc. If you wanna flame this post write it in one of them and keep
it there. Posting in this thread wont add anything useful to the
thread and/or the readers!
--------------------------------------------

Thanks for taking time to read this and helping me!
Love this community! Keep up the good work!

if you get that error, use other words like 'tutorial'

to awnser your questions:
1. mspaint, comes free with windows. I use it, I think it's good, some disagree but it's a great programm to start with.
otherwise, there is a program called Graphicsgale, google it and you'll find it in no time
2. Go to the main page and click on 'links' then click on 'tutorials' and voila!

I use Photoshop and its awesome for pixelling. Seems its your settings and preferences that are not set up right. You need to turn off all the 'snap' features, turn off all anti-aliasing and pixel at 800%. You can open a new 'view' at 100% at the same time to keep an eye on things.

Bah, using such a heavy program for pixel art? Tssh. MSPaint ftw. (Although the only reason i can cope with that is cus of Animationshop, i guess).

I second jalonso's "support photoshop pixelarting" movement. Who wants MSPaint? *snort*

understandable, but I think once you learn how to use it its wonderful. I can't really say much about photoshop, I'm not really into heavy applications.
