The Decline of a Race
A great wheel fell from the sky.
They emerged battered and bruised, their skin on fire. Human-like they moved though they were not of human species. A great opening filled their would be faces-no eyes or nose no mouth. They let out bellows of communication and beams or telepathy shot from the opening.
The Selection
Many units of time later, they decided that each one must specialize in a task and the selection of breeding pairs would accompany this task. Their offspring solidified the idea. Some generations later there were great deformities genetically. Their bodies had become so apt to their life task that they had severe deficits in other areas of life. The builders could no longer speak their openings had become too small. The scientists could no longer walk. Their legs had become too frail and malformed. The legs were cut off at birth. Their leaders were fully formed with no defect. However these leaders' genetics were so few that inbreeding would commence.
The Destruction
The workers aged on they stood alone, born without openings. A great plague killed the scientists. The leaders were constantly stricken with sickness and defected malformed minds. So the workers lived on, with only half of the attributes from original race. Edited by Pixel_Outlaw - 29 March 2007 at 9:24am |

Seeing as people who aren't ill tend to go home instead of sitting in the hospital doing nothing, whereas ill people have to stay until they're healthy, I think it's normal most people you see at hospitals are ill. :)

I store my sugar in the form of a bitruncated cubic honeycomb comprising of truncated octahedrons. :p

Hmmm the plausibility of bitruncated cubic honeycomb comprising of truncated octahedra boggles the mind. What would bitruncation mean? Perhaps truncation of the edges formed from the initial point truncation? Honeycombs cannot be formed from octehedra to my knowledge. They don't appear to tessellate I could be wrong. Adding truncations to them would not help the tessellation. Not to mention truncating twice.
Besides a hexahedron I wonder what other polyhedra tessellate in 3D? Well the hexagonal prism of course as well as the triangular prism.
One could dream I suppose. Edited by Pixel_Outlaw - 29 March 2007 at 2:40pm |

This is what tessellating truncated octahedra looks like. Imagine storing your sugar cubes like that! Each cup of tea would be a sheer adventure.

Ahhhh I was thinking one level deeper of truncation. I had never encountered bitruncation. I wasthinking further truncation of the corners formed, that would not tessilate but indeed what you posted does. My mistake. Edited by Pixel_Outlaw - 29 March 2007 at 8:58pm |
