Team name:
Eon Clash - More of a one man show, but its been around a while. Project name: Secrets of the Domus Aurea Brief description: We am currently working on an entry for PGD 2007, and though we don't have a problem with the programming, the graphics have slipped through the cracks. Currently all development has been completed by myself with the only aid being from my testers. Many thanks go to them, as they help make the project stable and playable. The basic idea is to combine 3 genres of game play (RPG, Maze, and Puzzle) into one single game. I didn't want combat to be the typical scenario, so instead I've built in a combat queue that you must customize before actually going into combat. This allows for interesting game play to emerge, as different tokens start to become available. The game is at a stable point where most of the RPG elements are in place, all of the Maze generation and utilization is in place, and work is being started on the puzzle integration. Its based in the late Roman era (5 September 476 AD) after the fall of the roman emperor Nero. The actual storyline is still being developed, but will play off of some common myths and historic fact. Target aim: Freeware - Competition Entry Compensation: Name in the credits would be best as the game will be released as a competition entry. Though if it wins it will show at IGF next year (its one of the prizes). If it places, then the prizes will be distributed among the team evenly. So, no money, but some good products if it does good. Technology: Utilizing JumpStart (a custom engine developed in FPC that uses SDL and Lua). Runs on Windows and Linux. Game currently runs at 640x480, but could be changed if the artwork was available. Currently I'm using graphics that I've managed to find around the web and sprite sheets from Charas. Nothing in the engine or the game is tied to a specific size/shape except that all tiles must be the same size (that could be changed easily though). Tiles are currently 40x40 with sprites at 24x32 (all in W/H). Talent needed: 2D Sprite and Tile artist Team structure: Jeremy Darling - Primary Developer and Catch all Michael Hontz - Lead QA/Tester Joen Joensen - Play Tester Website: Contacts: Previous Work by Team: Additional Info: The story line is being developed from the following short bit of information: In the year 64AD (after the Great Fire of Rome) Nero built the Domus Aurea (or "Golden House"). This is the story that is known. The story that is not common is the secret that the Domus Aurea hides and of your adventures within. It is now 5 September 476 AD and yesterday Romulus Augustus was deposed (history will show that he will not be replaced). During Rome's fall stories of a powerful secret hidden within the catacombs of the Domus Aurea have surfaced, and being the curious type that you are, you have set out to find the truth or fiction of them. An old hag appears every now and then in the game to provide information about level goals and other useful things. Of course, some times she is just an old hag. This was more apparent in earlier versions where her code was being built out, but will become apparent again as more of the game is built out. Development has finally got to the point of building on the actual game instead of the individual parts that make up the game. A complete design document is available on the project home page. It is a living document that is being updated as the game is built out. Feedback: ALL Edited by Ensellitis - 31 March 2007 at 4:04pm |
