Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god...

WHY!!!!!!???

Ok, so i was closing Photoshop and it told me whether i wanted to save, and i said yes (even though i had just saved anyway) but then it told me it couldn't save because the file was locked or something random and completely stupid. So i tried again and just said no, to the saving thing. Now i just opened up Photoshop again to work some more on the picture AND IT HAS COMPLETELY DISSAPEARED FROM MY COMPUTER. Like, it's not in my recycle bin, it's not in the folder it was, it's not in the recent docs for Photoshop. It's just gone.

I didn't save a backup, in fact, i was GOING to save a backup when i tried to open the file. All i have of it is a small PNG image of an older WIP of it. This is really pissing me off because i just can't understand why or how it's dissapeared. I said no to saving it, surely it wouldn't just delete the whole file which i have saved multiple times before?

Help. I'm gunna go crazy.

That message about 'locked' is not stupid nor random. It usually means that your prefs file became overwhelmed and self corrupted. That's a safety feature in the PC version of PS. Do a 'recovery' or even go to your syatem folder on your C drive and turn on 'invisible files' then search again. Don't forget inside the program itself. If this happens again trash the prefs (do it anyways ;)

The file is still recoverable bacause you had made a previous save from the time this ocurred. You may however need soom form of PC utility to 'see' it.

and next time when it asks "do you want to save the file" when exiting.
and the buttons are yes no cancel
PRESS cancel
PS won't exit and you'll be able to save the file however you want to. 'Save as...' etc.

Ah, thanks Mykola. I shall definetely keep that in mind. And i don't mind about the old file anymore (apart from the cool background... but i guess i can make that again) so i'm not going to go through much bother to get it back. I've already restarted anyway.

Thanks again guys! :D

Here's what you do.
1. Make a straw perchase of a handgun.
2. Place the gun next to your head, barrel pointed toward your brain.
3. Fire away.
You can use jalonso's plan as a backup.

This one time(i forget what program I was in, it wasn't photoshop) I saved a pixel and it got all jumbled up.  I was pretty POed, because that only happens when it's something you've worked hard on, and something you'll never be able to do again.
Good luck finding your file.
